“25 CONTESTANTS ELIMINATED… BY AN ‘EASY’ PICTURE QUESTION.” What looked like one of the simplest puzzles ever seen on The 1% Club turned into absolute carnage when a staggering 25 players got caught out by the same mistake. The images were right there on the screen. The answer seemed obvious. Then the results appeared — and a quarter of the contestants were suddenly gone. Even Lee Mack admitted he couldn’t believe what had happened. Could you have spotted it in under 30 seconds?

THE 1% Club wiped out a whopping 25 contestants on an ‘easy’ picture question – but could you have got it in 30 seconds?

This huge elimination came at an early stage in the game – leaving host Lee Mack shocked.

A large number of players were left stumped on an 80% question – regarded as one of the most simple.

Lee asked the quiz hopefuls: “What two-word phrase does this code represent?”

Contestants were then shown side-by-side photos of a clock and some flies.

Once the 30 second time limit expired, it was shown 25 people had answered incorrectly.

Lee remarked: “I was not expecting that”, as he discovered the outcome.

The right answer was revealed as the common phrase “time flies”.

Speaking to eliminated contestants afterwards, Lee discovered at least two had answered “clock flies”.

The 1% Club tests logic and common sense rather than general knowledge.

Many contestants fall short of reaching the final round – and the tricky 1% question.

One instance saw 10 players sent home on a seemingly “easy” 90% question.

A tenth of the starting line-up went out in the very first round.

Lee read out the following: “Logically, which of these children’s characters could be included in this sequence?”

He then read the sequence which consisted of “Humpty Dumpty, Tinky Winky, Andy Pandy.”

The 100 audience members were then presented with two options – Postman Pat or Incy Wincy.

He told the contestants that Incy Wincy would be the only plausible answer as a result of it continuing the rhyming scheme pattern.

The 1% Club’s Most Difficult Questions

The 1% Club sees 100 contestants try and make it to the 1% question and be in with a chance to win a share of the jackpot. Here are just some of the show’s most difficult teasers.

Sharon Swift, who was eliminated, explained her reasoning:  “I put Incy Wincy as he is a spider and the rest are all sort of people.”

To which Lee quipped back: “Hang on, the rest of them are real people?

“Apart from the fact, none of them are real people – I don’t think any of them are humans in fact!”

The 1% Club airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
