Contestants Christopher and Scott were on a roll on the show, climbing through the rounds with a mixture of easy answers and lucky guesses.
But then host Lee Mack delivered a seemingly simple question which, when thought about, became incredibly tough.
Lee prompted the lads to look at the question screen as he read out: “How many triangles are in this picture?”
The screen showed a large triangular shape with numerous other shapes broken down inside of it.1% Club finalist gets difficult £96K question wrong – but could you get it?
Among it were many other triangles, as well as shapes next to one another which could form another triangle when merged together.
Silence filled the room as Christopher and Scott studied the shapes, blank-faced.
Lee then repeated the question as Christopher looked down at the floor, time still ticking away.
When time was up, Christopher locked in with an answer of 8 triangles.
Meanwhile, Scott managed to spot over double the amount, locking in an answer of a whopping 19.
But did you get the question right?
After a dramatic pause, Lee said: “Let’s look at the answer.”
It turns out that neither of the contestants were right.
The correct answer to the tricky question was a total of 18 triangles.
The trick was to count the combined shapes inside that also made a triangle, resulting in 18 in total.
Lee apologised to the lads after they failed to get the right answer, and asked Christopher what had happened.
He laughed and responded with: “I clearly didn’t count all the triangles.”
Lee then asked Scott whether his answer was a wild guess or whether he had been counting, considering his answer was only off by one.
Scott then admitted: “I started counting, and then I just kept counting the same triangles over and over and over again.
“And then I just panicked and put 19.”
But would you have got the answer right?
