Getting a Golden Buzzer during the America’s Got Talent Auditions round is an automatic advancement to the Live Shows, and in Season 21, Mackenzie Sol is one of the lucky contestants to receive this honor. Mel B. used her second and final Golden Buzzer on Mackenzie during his audition, which aired on June 23.
Before impressing the judges with his singing, Mackenzie revealed that he previously auditioned for Simon Cowell on The X Factor U.K. when he was just a child. While he didn’t meet the age requirement at the time, Cowell urged him to continue pursuing his singing dreams and return in the future.

Mackenzie is a singer/songwriter and content creator. He often posts singing videos, as well as other viral videos, on Instagram and TikTok. As of press time, Mackenzie has more than 12 million followers on TikTok and nearly 2 million on Instagram.
What happened to Mackenzie Sol on American Idol?
Mackenzie was a contestant in Season 22 of American Idol in 2024. He auditioned for Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie with a rendition of “Bring It on Home to Me” by Sam Cooke.
After making it through the first part of Hollywood Week, Mackenzie performed during the Showstopper Round (Top 56), then had to compete in a sing-off to make the Top 24. His performance of “Jealous” by Labrinth impressed the judges enough that they moved him through against Ziggy.
For the Top 24 in Hawaii, the contestants were split into two groups of 12, with two from each group eliminated at the end of the round. Mackenzie made it through to the Top 20 with his performance of Nick Jonas‘ “Jealous.”

Mackenzie was one of the six contestants eliminated during the Top 20 and did not move forward to the Top 14.
Where does Mackenzie Sol live?
While Mackenzie is from the U.K., he currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. He often performs in Las Vegas, including a recent residency at Easy’s Cocktail Lounge inside ARIA Resort & Casino.
