In Episode 4 of House of the Dragon Season 3 so far is Ormund Hightower’s bold, completely naked introduction in a Tumbleton bathtub. Actor James Norton recently revealed via Entertainment Weekly that the scene was intentionally drawn out to emphasize the character’s extreme arrogance.

Norton explained how the production team played with the timing of the scene:
“How long can he stand there completely bullock naked in front of these strangers, in front of the people of Tumbleton? Again, we pushed it, and the towel was delayed and delayed and delayed.”
The decision to keep Ormund exposed for as long as possible wasn’t just for shock value; it was a deliberate choice to show how little he cares about modesty or the opinions of those around him. Ormund views himself as untouchable and superior, and the prolonged nudity drives that point home in a very memorable (and meme-worthy) way.
A defining character introduction
This “butt-naked” entrance perfectly sets up Ormund as a larger-than-life, theatrical, and somewhat unhinged figure within the Green faction. Norton’s commitment to the moment; including the “really camp” delivery of his lines, shows how committed he is to making Ormund stand out.
Reason of the scene’s impact
By delaying the towel and letting the awkwardness linger, the show leans into the absurdity and boldness of the character. It’s a fun, memorable way to introduce a new player while reminding viewers that the Hightowers are not afraid to be dramatic.
James Norton’s willingness to go all-in (literally) has paid off. Ormund is already one of Season 3’s most entertaining additions.
