Ludwig series 2, starring David Mitchell and Anna Maxwell Martin, is set to return to the BBC soon.

Ludwig became the BBC most successful comedy debut in six years when it premiered nearly two years ago. Following its huge success the show is making its highly-antipiated return and the exact date has finally been confirmed. The second series will air on August 20, with all six episodes becoming available simultaneously on iPlayer on the same date. David Mitchell will reprise his role as John “Ludwig” Taylor, a reclusive puzzle creator who publishes puzzle books under the pen name Ludwig.
He also plays James Taylor, John’s identical twin brother and a distinguished detective chief inspector with the Cambridge police force. He will be joined by co-star Anna Maxwell Martin, who is taking on her role as Lucy Betts-Taylor. The duo will be joined by Dipo Ola as DI Russell Carter and Dorothy Atkinson as DCS Carol Shaw. Also back are Ralph Ineson as Chief Constable Ziegler, Karl Pilkington as DI Matt Neville and Dylan Hughes as Henry Betts-Taylor.

The second series will also welcome some new additions, with Line of Duty’s Mark Bonnar taking on the part of newspaper editor Gareth Fisher, and Fleabag favourite Sian Clifford joining the cast as local MP Joanne Kemper.
The synopsis for the second series reveals that John’s new role as an official station employee comes with strict limitations, preventing him from using police resources to search for his missing brother or investigate the work he left behind.
However, John remains determined to uncover the truth, with Lucy — his sister-in-law and the wife of missing brother James — joining him in the search for answers.
As the pair continue to piece together the mystery and bring James home, the end of one deception marks the beginning of another, setting the stage for a new chapter of intrigue and uncertainty.

Earlier this year, Mitchell opened up about how his character’s official role on the police team will shake things up in the new episodes.
He told Radio Times: “When you watch the second series, you realise there’s still quite a lot of obfuscation involved in his role, because not everyone in the police force is entirely on side with his appointment.
“And of course, he’s still got to cover up the fact that for a long time he was solving cases while impersonating a police officer. And if that ever gets out, well, five murderers will walk free, and he won’t walk free himself.”
