Scotty McCreery has always had a strong connection to classic country music. McCreery included his own version of the 1970 classic on his new album, 15, which was released on July 17, 2026, through Triple Tigers Records. The album marks an important milestone for the North Carolina singer, celebrating 15 years of his career as a recording artist.
For McCreery, “Hello Darlin’” is more than just another classic. He has performed the song during his live shows for years, making it a natural choice for the new album.
Written and originally recorded by Conway Twitty, “Hello Darlin’” tells the story of a man speaking to a former lover after their relationship has ended. He asks how she is doing and wonders if she has found happiness with someone else. At the same time, he admits that he still misses her, regrets the mistakes he made and wishes he could hold her again.
The simple traditional country arrangement gives the emotional lyrics plenty of room to stand out, while the singer’s voice remains the main focus. That makes the song a particularly good match for McCreery’s deep country sound.
Twitty first released “Hello Darlin’” in March 1970 as the lead single and title track from his album of the same name. The song quickly became one of the biggest country hits of the era, reaching No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart and staying there for four weeks. It was also named Billboard’s No. 1 country song of 1970.
