More than two decades after their highly publicized breakup, Jerry Hall says she and Mick Jagger have reached an unexpectedly warm place in their relationship — one built around family, grandchildren and even Sunday lunches together.

Ahead of her 70th birthday, Hall opened up to British Vogue about the sprawling family she and the Rolling Stones frontman created during their 22 years together.

And despite the painful way their relationship ended, Hall now speaks about Jagger with striking affection.

“He and I get on really well,” she said, offering a very different picture of their relationship today.

From a painful breakup to an unlikely friendship

Hall and Jagger became one of rock music’s most famous couples after getting together in the late 1970s. They went on to have four children — Elizabeth, James, Georgia and Gabriel.

But their relationship came to an end in 1999 after Jagger’s affair with Brazilian model Luciana Gimenez resulted in a pregnancy.

For Hall, the breakup was deeply painful. Yet more than 20 years later, she appears to have reached a very different perspective on what happened.

She acknowledged that people make mistakes when they are young and suggested that those mistakes no longer define how she views Jagger.

Most importantly, they share children.

“But I think when you have children with someone it’s important to be friendly,” Hall explained.

That philosophy appears to have shaped the unusually close relationship the former couple now maintain.

Mick Jagger Still Joins Her for Sunday Lunch

Perhaps the biggest surprise is just how comfortable Jagger remains within Hall’s family life.

The Rolling Stones legend reportedly visits Hall at her Oxfordshire home with his fiancée, choreographer Melanie Hamrick, and their son Deveraux, affectionately known as Dev.

“He comes out here quite a bit, Sunday lunch, him and Mel and their son, Dev,” Hall revealed.

She described Hamrick and their son warmly, while also praising the relationship between Jagger’s children from his different relationships.

Jagger is the father of eight children, including four with Hall, as well as children with Marsha Hunt, Bianca Jagger and Luciana Gimenez.

What could easily have become a complicated family arrangement instead appears to have developed into something remarkably harmonious.

“All the kids love each other”

Hall says the different branches of Jagger’s family have managed to form a surprisingly close bond.

“Mick’s a great diplomat,” she said. “All the kids love each other. All the mothers of the kids love each other.”

The family’s closeness was reportedly on full display when around 23 members of the extended family gathered together for Christmas in Mustique.

For a family spread across multiple relationships and generations, Hall admitted that the arrangement might seem unusual.

But for her, it simply works.

“It’s just odd, isn’t it? Just worked out that way.”

Grandmotherhood Has Given Hall a New Perspective

Hall is now enjoying another stage of family life as a grandmother.

She spoke fondly about spending time with her grandchildren and maintaining a quieter life at her country home, where she keeps chickens and enjoys gardening and other simple activities.

After years of raising her own children, Hall joked that she has already “done my bit” and can now enjoy the more relaxed side of being a grandmother.

Her comments suggest that family, rather than romance, has become increasingly central to her life.

Her Relationship With Rupert Murdoch Is Very Different

Hall’s warm relationship with Jagger stands in sharp contrast to her relationship with her other former husband, media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

The pair married in 2016 before divorcing in 2022. Hall told British Vogue that she has not seen Murdoch in several years.

One major difference is obvious: Hall and Murdoch did not have children together.

That meant there was no shared family requiring the same ongoing connection that exists between Hall and Jagger.

These days, Hall says she is not dating and appears perfectly content with her independence.

At 70, Jerry Hall Is Choosing Peace

After decades of international fame, modeling, acting, motherhood and relationships with some of the world’s most recognizable men, Hall’s priorities appear to have changed.

As she approaches 70, she says she is increasingly interested in something much simpler: peace and enjoying life.

She reflected that getting older can change what people value. When you’re young, romance, ambition and success may dominate your dreams. Later in life, peace can become much more important.

And Hall does not appear interested in rewriting her past.

The painful breakup with Jagger is simply one chapter of a much larger story.

Today, their relationship looks remarkably different: Sunday lunches, grandchildren, blended family gatherings and a friendship that survived one of rock music’s most famous breakups.

For Jerry Hall, perhaps that is the most unexpected ending of all.
