Robert Plant Surprises Fans With Unannounced Kidderminster Performance Alongside Mike Sanchez
Robert Plant gave fans in Kidderminster an unexpected treat on August 21, making a surprise appearance during Mike Sanchez’s show at Kidderminster Town Hall.
The Led Zeppelin frontman joined his longtime friend on stage without prior announcement, turning what had already been a night of live music into something particularly memorable. Videos and photographs shared from the concert show Plant performing eight songs during a guest appearance that lasted more than 20 minutes.
Plant revisits Led Zeppelin and rock ’n’ roll classics
Plant and Sanchez worked their way through a set that drew heavily on the blues and early rock ’n’ roll music that has long influenced Plant.
Among the biggest moments was a performance of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock And Roll.” Plant also tackled Howlin’ Wolf’s “How Many More Years” and Lowell Fulson’s “Reconsider Baby.”
The set included several songs associated with Elvis Presley as well, including “A Big Hunk o’ Love,” “A Mess of Blues,” “Little Sister” and “One Night.”
Plant appeared relaxed throughout the impromptu appearance and even joked with Sanchez about the late night.
“I’d like to thank you, my dear nephew, for making me stay up so late,” Plant told him from the stage.
He also revealed during the performance that his daughter Carmen was among those attending the show.
Photos later posted online captured Plant performing alongside Sanchez and his band at the venue.

The collaboration was far from a meeting of strangers. Plant and Sanchez have known each other for more than four decades, with their friendship stretching back to the early 1980s.

Sanchez reflected on their history in an Instagram post last year, explaining that the two first connected through their shared enthusiasm for classic rock ’n’ roll.
“Robert Plant has remained a dear friend since around 1982 when we first made contact to the sounds of Johnny Burnette´s Rock n Roll Trio and Vince Taylor & The Playboys,” Sanchez wrote.
Their friendship has even developed its own affectionate family-style nicknames.

“I call Robert my uncle and he calls me his baby brother!” Sanchez added.
That decades-long connection was on full display in Kidderminster, where Plant’s unexpected arrival transformed Sanchez’s August 21 concert into a rare chance for the audience to see the longtime friends sharing a stage — and revisiting some of the blues and rock ’n’ roll songs at the heart of their musical bond.
