Jacob Tremblay Takes on Ted Kaczynski in Netflix’s ‘Unabomber’ Trailer
Jacob Tremblay plays one of the most notorious domestic terrorists in American history in Netflix’s upcoming film Unabomber, which traces Ted Kaczynski’s transformation from a teenage Harvard prodigy into the man behind a 17-year bombing campaign.
Tremblay, known for Room and Sovereign, portrays Kaczynski across different stages of his life. The film follows his descent from an exceptionally gifted 16-year-old student to the infamous figure who became the focus of one of the longest manhunts in U.S. history.
The trailer offers a look at the troubled world surrounding Kaczynski and the experiences that shaped his path. At the center of the story is Professor Henry Murray, played by Russell Crowe, whose controversial psychological experiments on Kaczynski become an important part of the film’s account of his troubled past.
A Star-Studded Cast
Tremblay leads a cast that includes several actors portraying real-life figures connected to the story.
Russell Crowe (Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind) plays Professor Henry Murray, while Shailene Woodley (Paradise, The Fault in Our Stars) portrays FBI agent Joanne Miller, who leads the investigation into Kaczynski.
The cast also features Annabelle Wallis (Star Trek: Discovery), Alexander Ludwig (Vikings), Steven Ogg (The Walking Dead) and Marc Menchaca (Ozark).
Directed by Janus Metz, Unabomber was written by Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves. The film moves between Kaczynski’s early life and the investigation that eventually exposed the man behind the bombings, examining the consequences of ambition and isolation along the way.
The 17-Year Unabomber Manhunt
Kaczynski’s bombing campaign killed three people and injured 23 others.
His first bombing took place in 1978. The subsequent investigation continued for 17 years before authorities finally located him in a cabin in the woods in 1996.
The search for Kaczynski became the longest manhunt in U.S. history, eventually bringing an end to one of the most extensive investigations in the country’s history.
Unabomber focuses on both Kaczynski’s personal transformation and the investigation that ultimately led authorities to him, with Woodley’s Joanne Miller at the center of the manhunt portrayed in the film.
When Does ‘Unabomber’ Premiere?
Unabomber is executive produced by Greaves, Donald J. Lee and Sam Chalsen in association with MRC. Sophie Cassidy serves as producer for 2.0 Entertainment.
The film will be released globally on Netflix on September 25, 2026.

Kaczynski died in prison in 2023 at the age of 81. He hanged himself after being diagnosed with late-stage rectal cancer.
