She Didn’t Take The Bait. Mick Jagger’s Fiancée Melanie Hamrick Gives A Playful Response To Questions About Their 44 Year Age Gap, Turning An Awkward Topic Into An Unexpectedly Charming Moment.

Melanie Hamrick is not letting the 44-year age gap between her and fiancé Mick Jagger get in the way of a little humor.

The 37-year-old former ballerina and author offered a playful take on the subject while attending the New York City Ballet 2025 Spring Gala at Josie Robertson Plaza at Lincoln Center in New York City on Thursday, May 8. Hamrick was asked about her relationship with Jagger, 81, and the considerable age difference between them.

With a laugh, she told Page Six, “He’s younger than me. He’s amazing, really is.”

The couple, who share 8-year-old son Deveraux “Devi” Octavian, have been together for more than a decade. And while their age difference has attracted plenty of attention, Hamrick has consistently spoken about their relationship in terms of the happiness and support they share.

Deveraux Has His Father’s Rhythm

Hamrick also opened up about her son’s natural talent for dancing, something she says appeared long before he began watching his famous father perform.

Over the years, she has shared videos of Devi dancing to Jagger’s music while attending The Rolling Stones’ tour shows, as well as clips showing him breaking into spontaneous dance moves that bear a striking resemblance to his father’s signature style.

“It’s amazing,” Hamrick told Page Six. “It’s natural. It’s in his genes. He just, like, moves.”

She emphasized that nobody taught him how to dance that way and said he was already moving like that before he had even seen one of his father’s concerts.

“No one taught him,” she said. “No one influenced him. He moved like that before he even saw one of his dad’s concerts. It’s still there.”

Hamrick Confirms Her Engagement to Jagger

The couple have also recently reached another milestone. In an interview published in April by French publication Paris Match, Hamrick confirmed that she and Jagger are engaged.

Their relationship began in 2014. The pair first met in February of that year in Japan while Jagger was touring with The Rolling Stones and Hamrick was traveling with the American Ballet Theatre.

Four months later, Jagger invited Hamrick to join him in Zurich, as their relationship became romantic. They welcomed their son, Deveraux, in 2016.

Although Hamrick confirmed the engagement, she made it clear that marriage is not necessarily part of their immediate plans.

“We’ve been engaged two or three years,” she told Paris Match, before explaining that the couple have no definite plans to marry.

“Maybe one day we’ll marry, maybe not. We are so happy in our current life that I would be too afraid to change anything.”

For Hamrick, the strength of their relationship comes down to something much simpler than the attention surrounding their age difference.

“We try to support each other, be there for each other, and make sure everyone is happy,” she said. “That’s all that matters to me and all I strive for.”

The Story Behind Hamrick’s Diamond Ring

Hamrick had previously offered a teasing glimpse into her relationship with Jagger when she was promoting her debut novel, First Position, in 2023.

At the time, PEOPLE asked her about the meaning behind the diamond ring she was wearing. Rather than directly confirming an engagement, Hamrick responded playfully.

“I mean, I have to giggle because did Mick give me the ring? Yes. Is it for that finger? Yes,” she said, referring to the sparkling piece of jewelry.

She then joked about the meaning of the ring, saying, “But are we like horny teenagers where we’re giving each other… In my mind, it’s a promise ring. We’ll be immature and call it a promise ring.”

Her comments came well before she publicly confirmed the engagement in her 2025 Paris Match interview.

Hamrick Turns to Her Next Book

Away from her relationship with Jagger, Hamrick is also continuing to build her career as an author.

She told Page Six this week that she is currently working on her third book, describing it as a modern retelling of Giselle and calling the project a “big undertaking.”

The upcoming book follows her first two titles: First Position, published in 2023, and The Unraveling, released in 2024.

For now, Hamrick’s life appears to revolve around several worlds she knows well: family, ballet, writing and her long-running relationship with one of rock music’s most recognizable figures.
