First Look At Jenna Coleman In Upcoming BBC Thriller The Jetty

Jenna Coleman steps into the role of a detective whose latest case threatens to uncover secrets far closer to home in The Jetty, a four-part BBC crime thriller set in a picturesque Lancashire lakeside town.

The BBC released the first trailer and key art for the drama ahead of its 15 July 2024 premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Coleman stars as Detective Ember Manning, who is called to investigate a fire at a holiday property in her hometown.

What initially appears to be an arson investigation soon becomes far more complicated. Ember discovers possible links between the fire, a podcast journalist investigating a long-running missing-persons case, and an illicit relationship involving a man in his twenties and two underage girls.

As she follows the evidence, Ember is forced to confront questions about morality, memory and the community she has always known. The deeper she goes, the more the investigation begins to challenge her understanding of her own past.

The BBC describes the series as both a coming-of-age story and a detective thriller, with its central mystery ultimately threatening to disrupt Ember’s personal life.

Jenna Coleman Leads A Strong Ensemble

Coleman, known for Doctor Who, The Cry and The Serpent, leads a cast that includes Tom Glynn-Carney, Ruby Stokes, Archie Renaux, Laura Marcus, Bo Bragason and Weruche Opia.

Glynn-Carney plays Malachy, while Stokes portrays Hannah and Renaux plays Ember’s colleague Hitch. Opia appears as Riz, the podcast journalist whose investigation becomes intertwined with Ember’s case.

The wider cast features Amelia Bullmore, Ralph Ineson, Matthew McNulty, David Ajala, Nina Barker-Francis, Miya Ocego, Elliot Cowan, Arthur Hughes, Dominic Coleman and Ruaridh Mollica, among others.

Glynn-Carney previously described his character as “quite a problematic character”, adding a light-hearted “surprise, surprise” comment about his history of playing similar roles.

A Thriller About More Than The Investigation

Created and written by Cat Jones and directed by Marialy Rivas, The Jetty uses its central mystery to explore issues surrounding sexual morality, age of consent, grooming, identity and memory.

For Ember, solving the case is only part of the challenge. Every new discovery brings her closer to uncomfortable questions about the people around her — and eventually forces her to reconsider what she believed she knew about her hometown and herself.

The four-part drama premiered on 15 July 2024, with episodes released through BBC iPlayer alongside the BBC One broadcast.
