‘YOU’VE GOT TO SPEED UP!’ PRINCE WILLIAM TRIES TO HURRY KATE ALONG — BUT SHE SIMPLY CARRIES ON CHATTING TO ROYAL FANS

Prince William appeared to discover that even a royal walkabout has its limits when he tried to hurry his wife Kate along — only for the Princess of Wales to seemingly ignore him and carry on talking to the crowds.

The amusing exchange unfolded during the couple’s visit to the Isle of Bute in Scotland, where Kate had been stopping to chat with residents, pose for selfies and hear about their lives.

As the Princess lingered with another group of well-wishers, William jokingly tapped his watch and gestured down the line.

“You’ve got to speed up, you’ve got to get all the way down there before you go,” he told her.

Kate appeared to apologise to those she had been speaking to as she was encouraged to move on.

But rather than disappearing down the line, she promptly stopped again just a few feet away — chatting to another group and posing for yet another selfie.

William was left standing behind her, grinning as he exchanged a few words with a member of their team.

The crowd appeared delighted by the playful moment, with cheers and applause breaking out as the couple continued their walkabout.

At one point, Kate told members of the public it was “nice to see you”, while one enthusiastic onlooker could be heard shouting from further back: “You two are f***ing brilliant.”

KATE AND WILLIAM TAKE ON SHINTY

The couple, known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay while in Scotland, were making their first official visit to the island as they celebrated its community spirit and volunteering ethos.

They visited Bute Shinty Club and watched an under-17s match alongside local residents before getting the chance to try the sport themselves.

Shinty, which is played with a curved stick and a small hard ball, quickly exposed the importance of hand-eye coordination.

William’s first attempt barely sent the ball a few inches before he found his rhythm and struck it cleanly to cheers from spectators.

Kate initially swung and missed, but her next effort flew towards the goalkeeper and earned a big reaction from the crowd.

She then continued firing shots towards the goal, coming close to members of the press positioned behind the netting.

“Sorry,” Kate said after one particularly close effort.

Later, she joked with content creator Andy McAlindon, known as Andy the Highlander, who had been standing beside the goal.

“I was a bit worried I was going to take your teeth out,” she told him.

Former Bute shinty player Tom McMillan praised the couple’s efforts, saying Kate had hit the ball better than William and had “really got into it”.

FROM SHINTY TO A BEACH CLEAN-UP

The royal couple later joined a beach litter pick, with William climbing inside the cab of a tractor being used to help with the clear-up while Kate stood alongside him.

They finished their visit at the community-owned Anchor Tavern Pub and Hub in Port Bannatyne, where William praised the model and the large number of volunteers helping keep the project financially viable.

Kate described the initiative as “special”.

The couple had arrived on Bute at their namesake town of Rothesay after travelling by ferry from the mainland. They had previously visited the Inner Hebrides islands of Iona and Mull last year.

A LIGHT MOMENT AMID THE DIANA ROW

Their visit came as tensions surrounding Earl Spencer’s forthcoming memoir about his sister, Princess Diana, continued to dominate the royal headlines.

Spencer has alleged in Swan Song: Diana, My Sister that Charles told him, days after Diana’s death, “rest assured, we’ll forget her soon enough”.

Other excerpts reportedly claim that Charles sounded “giddily elated… like a lottery winner” when he called Spencer after Diana’s death.

The memoir also contains further deeply personal claims about Diana, including an allegation that she drove more than once to Beachy Head while contemplating suicide before her love for William and Harry stopped her from going further.

Another passage claims Diana told Spencer that her husband was “in love with his valet” while discussing divorce.

Buckingham Palace has not responded to the latest allegations, although a spokesman previously said that “fraternal grief can cloud reason”.

Against that backdrop, William and Kate’s relaxed exchanges with the public offered a strikingly ordinary glimpse of the couple carrying on with their official duties — with William apparently discovering that getting Kate to move on from a crowd of enthusiastic well-wishers is easier said than done.
