American Sniper: Clint Eastwood’s acclaimed war drama is now on Netflix

The film portrays Kyle’s rise on the battlefield alongside the increasingly difficult reality of returning home. His military achievements place enormous pressure on his personal life, particularly his marriage to Taya Kyle, played by Sienna Miller.

Six Oscar nominations
The film also made a significant impact at the 87th Academy Awards.
American Sniper received six nominations: Best Picture, Best Actor for Bradley Cooper, Best Adapted Screenplay, Film Editing, Sound Mixing and Sound Editing. It ultimately won the Oscar for Sound Editing, awarded to Alan Robert Murray and Bub Asman.
Cooper’s nomination was particularly notable. His performance required him to portray Kyle across different stages of his life, from his early military career to the increasingly complicated aftermath of his deployments.
Although Cooper did not win the Oscar, his performance remains one of the elements most frequently highlighted by audiences and critics.
A film that divided audiences
The response to American Sniper was not universally positive.
While many viewers praised Eastwood’s direction, Cooper’s performance and the film’s depiction of military life, the movie also generated debate over its portrayal of Chris Kyle and the Iraq War.
