PRINCESS KATE NEARLY SUFFERS RED-CARPET DISASTER — HER INSTANT REACTION TO THE GOWN MISHAP STEALS THE SHOW

Princess Kate narrowly avoided a very public red-carpet mishap — and her reaction was almost as memorable as her dazzling appearance.
The Princess of Wales, 44, arrived at the world premiere of Tom Cruise’s new film Digger at London’s Odeon Leicester Square wearing a flowing purple Jenny Packham gown, with Prince William beside her in a black-tie ensemble.
But as Kate walked into the cinema with Film and TV Charity chief executive Marcus Ryder and chairman Claire Tavernier, an awkward moment suddenly unfolded.
Tavernier accidentally stepped on the back of Kate’s gown, causing the princess to briefly lose her footing.
Clearly mortified, Tavernier immediately raised her hand in apology. Kate, however, quickly brushed off the near-disaster, flashing her a sympathetic smile before breaking into laughter and confidently continuing along the red carpet.
The moment was captured on video and quickly drew praise from royal fans, with one calling Kate’s reaction “the best possible” and another describing it as “genuine and kind.”
Kate had already attracted plenty of attention with her striking purple gown, which she paired with a Jimmy Choo Bordeaux velvet clutch and matching burgundy velvet pumps.
She completed the look with the Queen Mother’s amethyst sautoir necklace and Collingwood diamond and pearl drop earrings famously given to Princess Diana before her 1981 wedding to Charles.
Kate and William were then greeted by Tom Cruise, who helped the princess down the cinema steps after chatting and laughing with the royal couple.
Cruise, 64, has previously spoken warmly about William, saying they share a love of England and aviation. The Hollywood star also told reporters before the premiere: “I just love them. They are lovely people and I have great respect for them.”
The event marked another reunion between Cruise and the Waleses after their meeting at the UK premiere of Top Gun: Maverick in 2022.
The premiere of Digger, a satirical black comedy starring Cruise as a wealthy oil tycoon, was held in aid of the Film and TV Charity and marked the organisation’s 73rd Royal Film Performance.
Inside the cinema, William and Kate met beneficiaries of the charity, including Chloe Malone, 27, who credited its support with helping her move on from sleeping rough and towards a production course at the National Film and Television School.
Yet it was the brief mishap on the red carpet that produced one of the evening’s most unexpectedly charming moments — with Kate turning a potentially awkward stumble into laughter before carrying on as if nothing had happened.
