Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth is back, but this time Quentin Tarantino is handing the director’s chair to David Fincher. Set eight years after Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth brings the Oscar-winning character into a very different version of 1977 Hollywood.
Cliff Booth returns to Hollywood
In Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, audiences followed Cliff Booth alongside his longtime friend and employer, Rick Dalton, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Dalton was a television star whose career had begun to fade, leaving him increasingly uncertain about his place in an industry that was changing around him.
Cliff, meanwhile, moved through Hollywood with the easy confidence of a former stuntman and Dalton’s trusted double. His path eventually crossed with members of the Manson Family, while the film’s fictional story unfolded alongside the real-life presence of Sharon Tate, played by Margot Robbie.
Pitt’s performance as Cliff Booth earned him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Now the character returns, with the story moving forward to 1977. Cliff is no longer primarily working as a stuntman. Instead, he has taken on a new role as a Hollywood studio fixer, using his particular set of skills to handle problems for people in the industry.
This time, however, Tarantino is not directing.

David Fincher takes the director’s chair
Tarantino wrote the screenplay for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, but David Fincher directs the film. It marks a notable change from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, while keeping Tarantino’s version of Cliff Booth at the center of the story.
The new film takes place eight years after the events of the original movie and follows Cliff through a very different Hollywood landscape. Brad Pitt returns in the role, while Timothy Olyphant reprises his role as James Stacy. The cast also includes Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Peter Weller.
The trailer shows Cliff working his way through 1970s Los Angeles as a fixer, with the character becoming involved in another dangerous situation. The film continues to explore the fictional Hollywood that Tarantino established in 2019, while Fincher brings his own visual and directorial approach to the material.
Tarantino continues Cliff Booth’s story in print
The film is not the only new Cliff Booth project coming from Tarantino.
Tarantino has also written The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a new novel centered on the character. The book is scheduled for publication on December 8, 2026, and follows Tarantino’s 2021 novelization of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
The novel returns to the same fictional world and places Cliff in 1977 Hollywood, expanding the character’s story beyond the movies.
That gives Cliff Booth two new adventures arriving within weeks of each other: Tarantino’s novel in December and Fincher’s film, based on Tarantino’s screenplay, arriving in theaters before its Netflix debut.
Release date for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth
The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth will receive a limited IMAX theatrical release beginning November 25, 2026, with an exclusive two-week run before arriving on Netflix on December 23, 2026.
For the first time, Cliff Booth’s story is moving forward without Rick Dalton, but the character remains firmly connected to the Hollywood world Tarantino created in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
