The Beast in Me Returns for Season 2 With Claire Danes Back as Aggie Wiggs
After becoming one of Netflix’s standout limited series and earning 21 Emmy nominations, The Beast in Me is getting another chapter.
Claire Danes will return as writer Aggie Wiggs for Season 2, bringing the troubled author back to Netflix after her dangerous entanglement with wealthy and mysterious neighbor Nile Jarvis, played by Matthew Rhys, in the first season.
The renewal also marks the beginning of a new exclusive creative partnership between Netflix and Howard Gordon, the writer behind The Beast in Me. Gordon will return for Season 2 as co-showrunner alongside Daniel Pearle.
Claire Danes Returns as Aggie Wiggs
Season 1 followed Aggie, a writer whose life takes a dark turn after she becomes fascinated by her new neighbor, Nile Jarvis, a billionaire with a deeply troubling past. What begins as an attempt to understand him gradually pulls Aggie into a dangerous relationship with a man she suspects may be capable of murder.
The second season will continue with Danes in the lead role. She will also serve as an executive producer.
Netflix has not announced a full Season 2 cast or revealed details about the new story yet. Matthew Rhys’s return has also not been announced, leaving the direction of Aggie’s next chapter open for now.
Gordon said the creative team had always agreed that another season would only happen if they found a story that could live up to the first. According to Gordon, they believe they have found that story and are excited to reunite the team for another season.
The renewal also expands Gordon’s relationship with Netflix beyond The Beast in Me, making the new season the first project under their exclusive creative partnership.
A Strong First Season
The decision to continue the series comes after an impressive run for Season 1.
The Beast in Me debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 list and reached the Top 10 in 88 countries. The series accumulated 43 million views during its first seven weeks on the service.
Its awards performance was equally notable. The first season received 21 Emmy nominations, including recognition for both of its central stars.
At the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, Claire Danes was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series. Matthew Rhys won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for his performance as Nile Jarvis, marking another significant milestone in his career as a three-time Emmy winner.
The series also received recognition for its music. Composers Sean Callery and Sara Barone won a Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie or Special (Original Dramatic Score).
Netflix’s head of Scripted Series, Jinny Howe, credited the show’s global audience and the performances of its cast while welcoming Gordon into the Netflix family through the new creative partnership. She also praised the work of Gordon, creator Gabe Rotter, and the wider cast and crew.
Season 2 Executive Producers
The second season’s executive producing team includes Claire Danes, Howard Gordon, Daniel Pearle, Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, Gabe Rotter, Conan O’Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross, and Jodie Foster.
For now, Netflix has not announced a release date, production schedule, additional casting, or specific plot details for Season 2.
What is confirmed is that Aggie Wiggs will return, with Gordon and Pearle guiding the next chapter of the series.
