Pack your bags and get ready for plenty of twists and turns in Positano, Netflix’s upcoming film starring Zoe Saldaña and Matthew McConaughey.
From Prime Video’s latest action dramedy Ride Or Die to Matt Damon’s epic journey home in The Odyssey, audiences’ appetite for gripping stories set against breathtaking European backdrops seems as strong as ever.
The next location to feature in a major onscreen production? Positano, the famous Italian cliffside village on the Amalfi Coast. The sun-soaked destination serves as the backdrop for – and lends its name to – Netflix’s latest star-studded film, which sees two Hollywood heavyweights face off as rival thieves in a once-in-a-lifetime heist.
Positano is directed by Daniel Roher, the filmmaker behind Academy Award-winning documentary Navalny. His other films include The AI Doc: Or How I Became An Apocaloptimist and this year’s crime thriller Tuner, starring Leo Woodall.
Returning to the screen following his portrayal of Kevin McKay in Apple TV’s thriller The Lost Bus is Matthew McConaughey, who stars opposite Zoe Saldaña. The film also reunites Saldaña with Netflix following her Oscar-winning performance as Rita in Emilia Pérez.
While plot details for Positano remain sparse so far, Netflix has teased: “A charming jewel thief (McConaughey) gives up the good life to help a mysterious woman (Saldaña) as they plot a high-stakes score that’s worth a lot more than just money.”
Joining McConaughey and Saldaña in the ensemble are Toni Collette and Anora’s Karren Karagulian. The producing team includes Eric Fellner (Bridget Jones’s Diary) and Tim Bevan (Bridget Jones’s Diary) for Working Title, alongside Derrin Schlesinger (The IT Crowd).
While we’ve yet to learn when Positano will land on Netflix, filming has begun in Italy. So pack your bags and get ready for an action-filled adventure on the Amalfi Coast.
