Pride and Prejudice: Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden Step Into Austen’s Most Famous Romance
Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden are finally giving fans a first glimpse of their Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.
Netflix has released a new teaser for Pride and Prejudice, its six-part adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel, written by bestselling author and screenwriter Dolly Alderton and directed by Euros Lyn, best known for Heartstopper. The series is set to premiere on Dec. 3, 2026, bringing a new generation of actors to Austen’s world of romance, family, social expectations, and sharply observed manners.
The teaser puts Corrin and Lowden at the center of the story as Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy, offering the first substantial look at their interpretations of one of literature’s most enduring couples.
A new look at the Bennet family
The story unfolds at Longbourn, where the Bennet family is at the heart of a complicated web of courtship and social pressure.
Olivia Colman plays Mrs. Bennet, while Rufus Sewell takes on Mr. Bennet. Their five daughters are portrayed by Freya Mavor as Jane, Emma Corrin as Elizabeth, Rhea Norwood as Lydia, Hopey Parish as Mary, and Hollie Avery as Kitty.
The family’s romantic prospects become particularly complicated when wealthy bachelors enter their social circle.
Jane quickly develops feelings for the charming Charles Bingley, played by Daryl McCormack. Elizabeth, meanwhile, finds herself at odds with Bingley’s friend Darcy, whose reserved manner and apparent arrogance make their early encounters anything but easy.
As relationships develop and family scandals threaten to complicate matters, Elizabeth is forced to reconsider her first impressions of Darcy and what she believes she understands about love.
Netflix’s newly released material also offers a first look at several of the characters alongside Corrin and Lowden. The series was recently previewed at the Jane Austen Festival in Bath, England, where Alderton unveiled images of 11 characters and announced the Dec. 3 release date.

Netflix has described the project as a new six-part return to Austen’s classic, with Corrin, Lowden, Colman, Sewell, Mavor, Demetriou, McCormack, Partridge, Norwood and others leading the ensemble.
What is Pride and Prejudice about?
At the center of Austen’s story are the five Bennet sisters, whose futures become increasingly tied to the marriage prospects available to them.
When wealthy bachelors arrive in the neighborhood, Jane and Elizabeth find themselves drawn into very different romantic situations. Jane’s growing affection for Bingley appears promising, while Elizabeth’s relationship with Darcy begins with mutual misunderstanding and friction.
Their story unfolds against the expectations of family and society. Elizabeth must navigate her feelings while dealing with the behavior and choices of those around her, eventually confronting the possibility that her first judgment of Darcy may have been wrong.
That combination of romance, family drama, comedy, and social observation is a major reason Pride and Prejudice has remained so influential more than two centuries after its publication.
Why make another Pride and Prejudice?
Austen’s novel has inspired adaptations across generations, but its central themes remain remarkably durable: love, marriage, family, friendship, class, reputation, and the assumptions people make about one another.
Alderton sees the novel as a defining work of romantic comedy. She has said that adapting it gave her an opportunity to revisit a story she loves while exploring both familiar and less familiar aspects of its characters.
The author, who won the National Book Award for her debut Everything I Know About Love in 2018, also emphasized the breadth of Austen’s original material, pointing to its mixture of comedy and drama as well as its exploration of love, family, friendship, and society.
For Alderton, the challenge is to preserve the qualities that have made the novel beloved while introducing its characters to viewers who may be encountering them for the first time.
Corrin has expressed a similar enthusiasm about taking on Elizabeth Bennet. The actor, who starred in Netflix’s 2022 adaptation of D.H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover, described playing Elizabeth as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and said the chance to work with Colman, Lowden and Alderton was a particular honor.

Who created Netflix’s new adaptation?
Alderton and Lyn executive produce the series alongside Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point. Corrin also receives her first executive producer credit on the project.
Lisa Osborne, whose credits include Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, serves as producer.
When Netflix first announced the adaptation, executive Mona Qureshi described Pride and Prejudice as the ultimate romantic comedy and highlighted Alderton’s knowledge of Austen’s work, as well as the cast assembled for the production.
The series reunites Alderton with Lyn, whose previous work includes Heartstopper. Their version brings Austen’s familiar world to television as a six-part series rather than a feature-length adaptation.
