Stephen Graham never fails to steal the show when it comes to portraying complex, gritty characters – and he’s adding another to the list in Apple TV’s upcoming crime drama.
Stephen Graham is, quite frankly, the king of drama. From his heartbreaking portrayal of Eddie Miller in Adolescence to his turns as undercover officer John Corbett in Line Of Duty and stressed head chef Andy Jones in Boiling Point, there seems to be no role the Merseyside actor can’t take on without wowing audiences – just look at his ever-growing list of awards, including Baftas, Emmys and Golden Globes. And now, he’s returning to our screens once again, this time stepping into a rather sinister role in Apple TV’s twisty crime drama Nocturne.
Based on bestselling crime novels Lazarus and The Sandman by Lars Kepler, the 10-parter stars and is executive produced by Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan), alongside Zazie Beetz (They Will Kill You) and Graham.

Written and created for TV by Rowan Joffé (Ballad of a Small Player) and showrun by John Hlavin (Shooter), the series “tells the story of Jonah Lynn (Schreiber), an ex-soldier turned homicide detective who, tired of working the tough streets of Philadelphia, moves to a small town in western Pennsylvania for a quiet life.
“But, as the town and his family come under attack from the diabolically cunning serial killer Jurek Walter (Graham), Jonah must protect all that he holds dear. When the desperate search for Jurek’s last missing victim forces Jonah to send his surrogate daughter, FBI agent Saga Bauer (Beetz), up against Jurek, how far will Jonah go?”
Alongside the main trio, the ensemble cast includes Bill Camp (Presumed Innocent), Rory Culkin (You Can Count On Me), Chrissy Metz (This Is Us), Poorna Jagannathan (Never Have I Ever) and Gary Carr (21 Bridges).
Nocturne is due to land on Apple TV with its first two episodes on Friday 30 October, and will be followed by new episodes every Friday until Christmas Day (25 December), so make sure to mark your calendars.
