Prince Harry has finally been asked directly about the reason behind his family’s surprise return to Britain — but the Duke of Sussex offered little explanation.

Harry, Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, returned to the UK six years after stepping back from royal duties and moving to the United States.

The family are now understood to be living in the Cotswolds, with Archie and Lilibet enrolled in British schools.

But exactly what prompted the move has never been officially confirmed.

During a visit to Canada on Friday, Harry was asked by CTV News what had persuaded the family to return to Britain.

Rather than reveal the reason, the Duke gave a notably vague response.

Harry said there were “lots of reasons” behind the decision but declined to elaborate, explaining that he did not want the subject to distract from his current efforts to raise money for Canadian veteran charities.

The brief answer leaves the central question surrounding the Sussexes’ return unanswered.

Harry did, however, offer a positive assessment of life back in Britain when asked how things had been since the family moved.

“It’s been great. It’s been great to be back on British soil,” he said.

“The kids are happy in school and it gives me a chance to be able to really focus on the Invictus Games in Birmingham in July next year.”

Harry’s latest comments came during a trip to Toronto, where he was raising money for two veteran charities and fulfilling a promise he made to a 102-year-old former paratrooper last year.

The Duke also spoke warmly about his connection to Canada, where Meghan lived for seven years before the couple began their relationship.

“I love Canada. My wife lived here for seven years, most people thought that she was Canadian,” Harry said.

“Look, Canada has a very special, a special place in my heart.”

Harry has spent much of the week travelling between the UK, the US and Canada for engagements linked to causes close to him.
