‘I ALMOST CHANGED THE CHANNEL… THANK GOD I DIDN’T.’ Saturday Night Live just unleashed a completely unhinged late-night sketch that viewers are calling the funniest comedy meltdown of the year — and the internet cannot stop replaying the chaos.

SNL gets bashed enough so I’m not gonna dole out the obligatory diss. The job is hard as hell, stressful as fuck, and 99.9% of people wouldn’t have the balls and/or mental stamina to do what they do. I don’t watch it religiously like I used to but if I’m home chilling on a Saturday and pucks aren’t on, I’ll throw it on the background while feeding my crippling Internet addiction.

And that’s what happened last night. After Minny spanked the Avs, I threw on SNL to see how my boy Matty D was faring.

Matt Damon & Sarah Sherman Talk FAST in SNL's "Auctioneers"

Once again, he was game for anything and jumped in with both feet. I also wanted to catch “Weekend Update” which has been pretty goddamn funny this season and was again last night. At 12:50, the final sketch came on. Historically, the last one has often been the ugly duckling of the show, though there have been exceptions.

But last night’s final sketch was not only the best final sketch I can remember, it was one of the best, and funniest, in the last 10 years. The verbal skills exhibited by Sarah Sherman and Matt Damon were incredible and impressive as hell. Not to mention fucking hilarious. Have a look…

I don’t know how this ended up at the end of the show. But I was happy as hell I didn’t change the channel. A funny concept that the performances elevated to the stratosphere. James Austin Johnson as a horny neighbor and would-be-suitor absolutely NAILED his pop-in. Hilarious. The camera cutting to their kids–Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Andrew Dismukes, and Marcello Hernández–was funny as hell then just got funnier when Damon starts auctioning off custody “benefits”.

Kudos to SNL and the creative folks behind this one. They take shit when things don’t great but they also deserve their propers when they nail it. And last night, “The Crumbling Marriage Of Two Auctioneers” nailed it, becoming an instant classic in the process.
