HARRY AND MEGHAN RETURN TO UK — BUT THE ‘FAB FOUR’ BOND WITH WILLIAM AND CATHERINE REMAINS FRACTURED

Once dubbed the “Fab Four”, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince William and Princess Catherine were once presented as the future of the Royal Family.
Today, the picture could hardly look more different.
Harry and Meghan are back in Britain with Archie and Lilibet, six years after stepping away from royal duties and relocating to California. But despite the Duke’s reportedly improved relationship with his father, King Charles, there is little indication that the deeper rift with William and Catherine has been repaired.
Harry once described Catherine as the sister he never had.
Years later, their relationship has been transformed by public accusations, competing accounts of private moments and the fallout from Harry and Meghan’s decision to leave royal life.

THE ‘FAB FOUR’ ARE A THING OF THE PAST
The Sussexes’ return comes after years in which their relationship with the wider Royal Family has played out in public.
After stepping down as senior working royals, Harry and Meghan said they wanted financial independence and built a new life in Montecito.
They subsequently gave high-profile interviews, including their 2021 conversation with Oprah Winfrey, released their Netflix documentary series and Harry published Spare, his memoir containing deeply personal claims about members of his family.

Now, back in Britain, Harry has resumed a busy schedule of public engagements, including the WellChild Awards.
Meghan, meanwhile, has largely kept away from the official spotlight, spending time with friends and settling into family life in the UK.
The contrast has only highlighted how dramatically the Sussexes’ relationship with the Waleses has changed.
WILLIAM AND CATHERINE ‘LOOK TO THE FUTURE’
Harry is understood to have made progress in his relationship with King Charles during previous visits to Britain.
His relationship with William, however, is widely reported to remain far more difficult.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are reportedly determined to avoid becoming drawn into further controversy surrounding Harry and Meghan and instead “look to the future”.
That approach marks a striking contrast with the years when the four were regularly portrayed together as a united younger generation of royals.
The old image of the “Fab Four” has been replaced by two very different family narratives.
THE CHARLOTTE DRESS DISPUTE

One of the most enduring points of tension concerns Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress ahead of Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding.
Earlier accounts claimed Meghan left Catherine in tears during a disagreement over the dress.
Meghan later gave a different version of events during her Oprah interview, while Harry addressed the incident in Spare.
According to Harry’s account, Catherine had been asked to bring Charlotte and the dress to a tailor, but believed the outfit needed to be remade. Harry wrote that Meghan later became upset following the fitting and that Catherine subsequently apologised, sending flowers and a card.
The competing versions became one of the most widely discussed examples of how differently the two couples remembered the same period.
EVEN THEIR FIRST MEETING TELLS A DIFFERENT STORY
The contrasting recollections go back even further.
During their engagement interview, Harry described William as eager to meet Meghan, while Meghan praised Catherine.
Harry said:
“William was longing to meet her, and so was Catherine.”
Meghan added that Catherine had been “wonderful”.
But Meghan later offered a noticeably different account of that first meeting in the Sussexes’ Netflix documentary.
She recalled arriving in ripped jeans and barefoot, explaining that she was naturally affectionate and a “hugger”.
“When Will and Kate came over, and I met her for the first time, they came over for dinner, I remember I was in ripped jeans and I was barefoot,” Meghan said.
“I was a hugger. I’ve always been a hugger, I didn’t realise that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits.”
She described the formality surrounding the couple as surprising and said she quickly realised that it extended beyond public appearances.
Harry later described the same evening in Spare, noting the contrast between Meghan’s casual appearance and Catherine’s more formal outfit.
“The only possibly discordant note I could think of was the marked difference in how the two women dressed, which both of them seemed to notice,” he wrote.
CATHERINE’S REPORTED REACTION
The Princess of Wales has rarely addressed the allegations publicly.
According to reports cited by the Daily Star, Catherine was left “baffled” by some of Harry’s personal criticisms but remained focused on her royal duties.
She has continued to carry out public engagements alongside William, with the couple maintaining a deliberately forward-looking approach to their work.
There have also been reports that Catherine viewed Harry and Meghan’s decision to step away from royal life as “inevitable”, while William was said to have been “saddened” by the development.
Those accounts offer a glimpse into how differently the decision may have affected the Waleses — but neither William nor Catherine has publicly provided a detailed account of their private feelings.
A VERY DIFFERENT FAMILY PICTURE
Harry and Meghan’s return to Britain has therefore brought an unusual situation into focus.
The Sussexes are once again living on British soil, while Harry continues to carry out high-profile charitable work.
Their children are settling into life in the UK, and Meghan has offered glimpses of their family time through social media, including woodland walks, fishing and the children cycling.
Yet none of that necessarily signals a restoration of the relationship Harry once had with William and Catherine.
The four royals who were once presented as an inseparable team now appear to be pursuing very different paths.
And while Harry may have rebuilt some of the bridge with his father, the old “Fab Four” dynamic remains a very different story.
