Meghan Markle is reportedly facing an unexpected hurdle after returning to the UK with Prince Harry — winning over the social circles surrounding their new home.

The Duchess of Sussex moved back to Harry’s home country in August, six years after the couple left Britain to build a financially independent life in the US. Their exact new location has not been disclosed, but they are believed to have settled in a non-royal residence in the Cotswolds.

Now, according to The Telegraph’s Eilidh Hargreaves, fitting into the local scene could prove “much trickier” than anything Meghan and Harry have faced before.

Hargreaves suggested that Meghan, in particular, is viewed unfavourably by some locals, with one social gathering reportedly offering a particularly awkward glimpse into the mood surrounding her.

She wrote that during a grand dinner party, one social acquaintance decided to test the reaction to Meghan by starting a conversation about her with two men.

According to the account, one man became so uncomfortable that he threatened to leave if Meghan’s name was mentioned again.

The writer later reflected on conversations with Meghan’s new neighbours, claiming the reaction went beyond simply wanting to keep their distance.

“So it wasn’t only ‘We don’t want anything to do with her’,” she wrote, “but ‘Do not degrade my house by bringing it up’.”

The claims paint a striking picture of the social challenge facing Meghan as she settles back into British life — with the Cotswolds proving a very different environment from the world she built in the US.
