Harry And Meghan’s School Mystery Deepens — Oxfordshire School Forced To Deny Their Children Are Joining

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have gone to extraordinary lengths to keep their children’s new school private — but speculation has now become so intense that one Oxfordshire prep school has been forced to address the rumours directly.

The school reportedly wrote to parents to shut down claims that seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet could be joining its pupil roll this month.

In a letter to families, staff reportedly acknowledged the “gossip” surrounding the Sussex children, while making one point clear: as of September 1, the headmaster had received “no application” for either child.

The unusual clarification has only added to the intrigue surrounding where Archie and Lilibet will begin their British education.

‘Despite the gossip’

According to Hello!, the school told parents that despite the rumours surrounding Harry and Meghan potentially choosing the Oxfordshire establishment, no application had reached the headmaster.

Staff in the admissions department were nevertheless described as remaining “ever vigilant”.

The speculation comes after the Sussexes confirmed their extended return to Britain following six years living in the United States.

Harry and Meghan arrived back on British soil at the end of August, with their children now expected to start at a British school.

Their exact school has deliberately been kept secret, with security concerns understood to be behind the decision.

It was previously confirmed that both children had secured places, with Archie due to enter Year 3 and Lilibet beginning Year 1.

That has left royal watchers guessing — and apparently generated enough speculation for schools themselves to start distancing themselves from the rumours.

Harry’s changing view of British schools

The secrecy is particularly notable given Prince Harry’s recent comments about education in Britain.

At last year’s WellChild Awards, singer Joss Stone recalled a conversation with the Duke of Sussex in which he spoke warmly about British schools and the importance of community for children.

Stone said Harry had described the schools as “wonderful” and stressed how important community was for children.

She suggested that giving Archie and Lilibet the opportunity to grow up around family, friends and a stronger sense of belonging was part of the reason for the family’s return.

The move, however, represents a significant change from the children’s upbringing in California.

Meghan once raised concerns about UK schooling

Meghan has previously expressed reservations about what life could look like for her children at a British school.

In her 2022 interview with The Cut, the Duchess spoke about the possibility of being photographed while doing the school run with Archie.

She argued that concern over constant attention did not make her “obsessed with privacy”, saying instead that she was being “a strong and good parent protecting my child.”

That makes the Sussexes’ decision to return their children to the British school system all the more striking.

Their choice of school remains undisclosed, and the Oxfordshire establishment has now made clear that, despite the speculation, it is not currently expecting Archie or Lilibet.

For Harry and Meghan, keeping their children out of the spotlight was always going to be difficult once their return to Britain became public.

But with even a school being forced to deny rumours about the family, the mystery surrounding where Archie and Lilibet will actually begin their new life in Britain is becoming harder to contain.
