THOUSANDS OF FANS BOOED HIM LOUDLY — AND HE WAS THERE TO PRESENT THE WINNERS’ TROPHY! TED CRUZ’S AWKWARD F1 MOMENT IN TEXAS TURNS INTO A SPECTACLE! Ted Cruz found himself at the centre of an embarrassing scene at the US Grand Prix in Texas, as thousands of fans reportedly drowned him out with boos while he presented the F1 winners’ trophy. What should have been a celebratory moment on one of motorsport’s biggest stages instead became an uncomfortable spectacle, with the crowd’s reaction stealing attention from the trophy presentation itself. The moment put Cruz in an unenviable position in front of a huge live audience, turning a high-profile appearance into a talking point beyond the racetrack. BUT WHAT TRIGGERED SUCH A LOUD REACTION — AND HOW DID CRUZ HANDLE THE MOMENT AS THE BOOS RANG OUT? A GRAND PRIX CROWD. A TROPHY PRESENTATION. AND A RECEPTION THAT WAS ANYTHING BUT CELEBRATORY.

For the second time in as many months, Texas Senator Ted Cruz was loudly and emphatically booed during a public appearance at a sporting event in his home state.

The MAGA Republican Senator was on the podium in Austin, Texas to present the first-place trophy to Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli after he took the checkered flag at the United States Grand Prix.

But as Cruz’s face was shown on television screens at the Circuit of the Americas, he was relentlessly jeered by the crowd of racing fans.

The reception was even addressed on the F1 broadcast by Sky Sports commentator David Croft: ‘Midterms are coming up, people are already voting with their voice,’ the television presenter jabbed.

While Cruz is not up for re-election until the midterms in 2030, Texas is in the midst of a fiercely contested Senate race between Republican state Attorney General Ken Paxton and Democrat State Representative James Talarico.

The boos continued to rain down on Cruz until his hands were off the trophy, at which point fans cheered Antonelli as he lifted the object.

The mocking of Cruz continued on social media: ‘Embarrassing. Republican senator and Trump supporter @tedcruz brutally booed by the Austin crowd on the F1 podium,’ tweeted La Repubblica reporter Antonello Guerrera.

A reply to Guerrera’s video read: ‘Well maybe if he wasn’t such an awful POS traitor, people wouldn’t boo him.’

Another reply read: ‘As he should be. Good for the crowd.’

‘How does this MF keep getting re-elected? Everybody hates him. WTF?’ wondered another user.

Last month, Cruz was treated in a similar manner by students at the University of Texas during an appearance on ESPN’s college football morning show College GameDay.

In the appearance, Cruz spoke for nearly ten minutes about the Protect College Sports Act – a proposed piece of Congressional legislation intended to establish rules around financing and eligibility in college sports.

However, the students loudly booed Cruz throughout the segment – which nearly drowned out the words of the senator.
