Keke Palmer is officially making the jump from American Idol to The Voice.
Just a few months after impressing American Idol viewers as both a mentor and guest judge, Palmer has confirmed that she will replace Carson Daly as host of The Voice beginning with Season 31. The announcement surprised many fans, as Daly has been the face of the competition since it first launched.
Palmer, who also hosts NBC’s game show Password, has already started filming the upcoming season, which will be known as The Voice: Celebrity. NBC announced on Aug. 4 that the special edition, set to premiere in 2027, will replace aspiring singers with celebrity contestants competing for the title of the show’s first celebrity champion.
Palmer shared the news herself with a playful Instagram video inspired by the viral “Say It 4 Ways” trend.
In the clip, she delivered the famous line, “This is The Voice,” using four different emotions—disappointed, excited, sarcastic, and flirty—before revealing the big surprise.
“That’s right, it’s true! I am hosting The Voice! I’ll see you guys there,” she said.
The announcement quickly drew thousands of reactions from excited fans.
“There’s literally no job she can’t do. Go Keke!” one fan wrote.
Another commented, “Look how she single-handedly gonna have me watching The Voice again.”
Not everyone expected Palmer to become the host, however.
“Host?! I thought she was gonna be a judge,” one surprised fan wrote, while adding they were still happy for her.
According to NBC, Season 31 will feature Queen Latifah and Riley Green returning as coaches after making their coaching debuts in Season 30, while Joe Jonas joins the panel for his first season as a U.S. coach.
The announcement also left many longtime viewers wondering about Carson Daly’s future with the franchise.
Although Daly has already completed filming the early rounds of Season 30, which premieres in September, he will step away from hosting duties for Season 31. He is expected to remain involved with the series as a producer.
Fans immediately shared their concerns online.
“Wait… is Carson leaving?” one person asked.
Another admitted they were unsure how they felt about all the changes, writing that replacing Daly and introducing a new lineup made the upcoming season feel very different from previous years.
NBC has not said whether Daly could return as host in the future.
According to a report from The U.S. Sun, the longtime television personality decided to step away because balancing The Voice with his responsibilities on NBC’s Today show had become increasingly difficult.
A source told the outlet that Daly couldn’t make the filming schedule work alongside his commitments in New York and also wanted to spend more time with his family.
Before joining The Voice, Palmer had become a fan favorite on American Idol.
She appeared during Season 24 as a mentor for the Top 24 contestants at Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa in Hawaii, where she worked alongside country star Brad Paisley.
Her energetic coaching style and genuine encouragement quickly won over viewers. She also joined judges Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Lionel Richie at the panel to offer feedback before performing her own single, “All They Type.”
Speaking with Billboard earlier this year, Palmer said she had been watching American Idol since childhood.
She recalled following some of the show’s biggest stars, including Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Bo Bice, Chris Daughtry, Clay Aiken, Adam Lambert, and Ruben Studdard.
Palmer also revealed that she once auditioned for American Juniors, the short-lived youth version of American Idol, in 2003. She advanced to Hollywood Week, and producers later surprised her by showing footage from that audition when she returned to the franchise more than two decades later.
Viewers praised Palmer throughout her American Idol appearances, with many commenting on her warmth and authenticity.
“Keke makes me so emotional. I love the authenticity, the genuineness, and the care that she brings to everything she does,” one fan wrote.
Although Brad Paisley returned to perform during the season finale, Palmer was noticeably absent. Some fans have speculated that she may have already committed to The Voice, which reportedly began filming its celebrity edition in July.
Now, after winning over American Idol audiences earlier this year, Palmer is preparing to lead one of television’s biggest singing competitions into an entirely new era.
