Mick Jagger Doesn’t Just Own One Rock-Star Mansion—His Stunning Global Property Portfolio Reveals A Very Different Life Behind The Rolling Stones

He was born in Dartford, England, and became a worldwide icon, but where does Mick Jagger live nowadays? The Rolling Stones frontman has invested in properties around the globe. In 2023 Jagger’s partner, Melanie Hamrick, told The Times that the couple and their son are a tight family unit, spending their days hopping around Jagger’s wide-ranging real estate portfolio. “Just full nomad,” Hamrick said of their lifestyle. Below, we’ve rounded up some of the most notable places that Jagger has called home—before moving along to the next place.

Harley House flat

In 1966, Jagger moved into an apartment on the fourth floor of Harley House, an Edwardian mansion on London’s upscale Marylebone Road. It’s unclear if the dwelling had a different layout during Jagger’s tenure, but when it landed on the market last year, it had four bedrooms across 2,500 square feet. The rock star reportedly had the pad decorated in a hippie-bohemian style, and was photographed donning a fur coat in the drawing room, which had 10-foot ceilings, a fireplace, and herringbone floors (all of which appear to be intact, per the listing photos). During this period Jagger began a relationship with Marianne Faithfull, who joined him at Harley House. In 1968 the couple moved on to London’s Belgravia area.

Chester Square rental

The couple’s first Belgravia dwelling was a rented house near Chester Square, according to Faithfull’s 1995 autobiography. “It was a big posh house. Neither of us cared for the decor, but since it was rented there wasn’t much we could do about it,” she wrote. As a fix, the couple covered the pad in “masses of Moroccan hangings that I draped all over the sofas, the walls and the floor.”

48 Cheyne Walk

After a short stint at Chester Square, Jagger and Faithfull moved to 48 Cheyne Walk in Chelsea. It was “a sixteenth-century house that had belonged to a shipwright and had wonderful wobbly floors and a crooked staircase,” as Faithfull wrote in her memoir. Jagger’s bandmate, Keith Richards, owned a home just down the street. The “Gimme Shelter” singer and Faithfull broke up in 1970, but Jagger held on to his Cheyne Walk house until the end of the decade.

Stargroves

Jagger’s next home was Stargroves, an East Woodhay, Hampshire, manor that the musician bought for £55,000 ($74,200 in USD) in the 1970s. The Victorian Gothic mansion sometimes served as a recording studio, and the Rolling Stones recorded tracks from Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main Street, and It’s Only Rock n’ Roll at the property, inside the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio—a now-famed truck custom-equipped with all of the necessary recording equipment. According to Hampshire Live, Jagger sold Stargroves in 1979 for £200,000, or about $269,800 USD.

French château

In 1980, Jagger paid $477,000 for Château de Fourchette, an estate in Pocé-sur-Cisse, a town in France’s Loire Valley. The rocker reportedly visits the property every summer, throwing a birthday bash every July 26. The 16th-century château sits on 50 landscaped acres and has a pond, a swimming pool, a tennis court, vegetable and flower gardens, and a Japanese pagoda. The 2005 Rolling Stones album A Bigger Bang was recorded on the premises, where Jagger also hunkered down during the COVID pandemic. He still owns this property.

Upper West Side townhouse

In 1982, Jagger converted a historic townhouse on Manhattan’s Upper West Side from apartments back into a single-family dwelling. Designed in 1987 by architect Clarence True, the home spanned 6,800 square feet across five floors. Jagger sold the home to the nearby Calhoun School in 2001, which stationed its administrative offices there.

Mustique vacation properties

Jagger had a vacation retreat custom designed in 1983 when he hired architect Arne Hasselqvist to build a Japanese-inspired compound on Mustique, a private island in the West Indies. The rock star must have been feeling nostalgic when he named the estate, because the villa shares its name, Stargroves, with Jagger’s 1970s mansion in Hampshire. Unlike any of Jagger’s other properties, however, fans can potentially spend the night there. In 2016 Forbes reported that he was offering the vacation property for rent, starting at $16,500 a week. Seven separate pavilions make up the tranquil villa, connected by a wooden walkway centered around a 25-foot swimming pool. According to the outlet, Jagger also owns the property next door, known as Pelican Beach.

Downe House

In the early 1990s, Jagger spent about £5 million (or $6.7 million) on a London mansion called Downe House. The 18th-century Georgian home in the city’s Richmond area was home to the musician and his then-wife Jerry Hall until they divorced in 1999. Reportedly Hall still resides there, and the exes are still listed in documents as the house’s co-owners.

Upper West Side apartment

Reportedly Jagger also spent some part of the 1990s in the San Remo, a celebrity-favored building on the Upper West Side in New York City. Bruce Willis, Steve Martin, Bono, Diane Keaton, Dustin Hoffman, and Mary Tyler Moore are just a few of the other big names who have lived in the building over the years.

Lakewood Ranch house

Jagger began his current relationship with ballet dancer Melanie Hamrick in 2014. Two years later they welcomed a son, Deveraux. In 2020 the couple picked up a Mediterranean-style home in Florida’s Lakewood Ranch near Hamrick’s family. Tucked inside a gated neighborhood, the 5,700-square-foot house was extra secure with an additional gate and tall landscaping around the home. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. The address was leaked and fans flocked to the property despite the couple’s security measures. Jagger and Hamrick sold the property in 2023 for $3.25 million.

Sicilian residence

The Rolling Stones frontman reportedly also spent some of the 2020 pandemic lockdown at an 18th-century villa in Sicily. Jagger liked the area so much that the following year he bought a seaside property on the southeastern tip of the Italian island, in the Portopalo di Capo Passero region.
