Fair warning… this Netflix thriller gets under your skin—and once it does, there’s no turning back. What starts as an ordinary binge-watch quickly turns into a white-knuckle ride, with every episode opening a whole new can of worms. As the tension keeps building, shocking twists, unsettling discoveries, and an overwhelming sense that no one is who they claim to be make it almost impossible to look away.

Audiences looking for a fresh thriller to bring the chills should look no further than this forthcoming series on Netflix. New six-part drama Below stars Hollywood A-lister Josh Hartnett, alongside Peaky Blinders and Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton and Mackenzie Davis of Station Eleven fame. Below is set in a small Canadian fishing town off the coast of Newfoundland, whose inhabitants are being terrorised by a mysterious sea creature.

The residents must find the strength to fight back against this enigmatic foe and protect their community and way of life. The show follows Hartnett’s big‑hearted but stubborn fisherman Calvin Penney, who is left haunted by his father’s mysterious death decades ago. When a strange creature starts attacking the small town, Calvin must keep his family safe, including his son Wade (Heaton).

Calvin teams up with a visiting marine researcher (Davis) as they try to confront the creature and discover the island’s hidden secrets before time runs out.

Netflix’s Tudum states: “Blending local myth, thrilling suspense, and heartfelt humor [sic], this twisty six-part limited series dives into themes of family, community, and change — both terrifying and inevitable.”

Netflix has already dropped some first-look images of a group of people, looking haunted, standing on a boat and looking out at the water.

Speaking about the inspiration for Below, creator Jesse McKeown said: “I’ve been coming to Newfoundland for many years, and it’s become a part of my life.

“I just always felt like I wanted to set something here, that this would be a great place for something big and something kind of epic. It’s such a unique landscape and such a rugged, dangerous, isolated, scary place in a lot of ways.

“But then there’s also this other side to it, which is that the community is so warm and the people are so funny and unique and there are so many eccentricities about the place.”

Below will premiere on Netflix on October 8
