Meghan Markle would have been left “humiliated” by the public turmoil surrounding Prince Harry’s return to Britain, according to a source, before the couple finally reunited with King Charles.
Harry’s visit was meant to highlight the Invictus Games and potentially include Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Instead, the trip became overshadowed by disputes over security and royal accommodations. The news follows the confirmation of Markle’s MasterChef Australia appearance.
“What was billed as a big homecoming, not only for Harry but potentially for Meghan too, turned into a nightmare,” royal commentator Russell Myers told PEOPLE.
“It was further evidence of the fractiousness of Harry’s relationship with the institution.”

Meghan was initially expected to appear alongside Harry during several engagements marking the countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.
However, Harry announced on July 4 that he would travel alone after being told his family would not receive police protection throughout the visit.
The decision reportedly left Meghan upset as disagreements between Harry’s representatives and Buckingham Palace played out publicly.
A source familiar with the couple said she would have felt “humiliated” by the situation.
Another source said Meghan “is very supportive” of her husband, adding, “There’s a lot of sadness” that she was unable to join him earlier.
The insider said that during Harry’s dealings with the royal family, “she always lets him lead.”
The dispute intensified after Harry initially declined an offer to stay at a royal residence and later attempted to accept it. Palace officials said the deadline had already passed.
“There were U-turns and backtracks, and it will have all added to the complete exasperation of the King and his aides when dealing with Harry,” Myers said.
A source close to the Sussexes described the week as “quite stressful.”
“This is not the first time it has not been plain sailing with correspondence or trying to make things work,” another source said.
“It all comes back to security. If that was resolved, there would be so much more certainty every time he comes—or they come.”
