The interior designer from Oakland, California, entered the competition with $25,602 in winnings from her previous two appearances.

Final Jeopardy Clue Tests Contestants on a Notorious Historical Figure

The Final Jeopardy category was Notorious Names, with a clue referencing a dramatic courtroom moment from March 14, 1964.

Host Ken Jennings presented the following question:

“A TV reporter noted a ‘human phalanx’ around this man as he left a courtroom after getting a death sentence on March 14, 1964.”

The correct response was Jack Ruby, the Dallas nightclub owner who shot Lee Harvey Oswald, the accused assassin of President John F. Kennedy.

Both contestants who qualified for Final Jeopardy answered correctly.

Bethea wagered $2,008, bringing her final score to $4,608.

Godwin Extends Her Winning Streak to Three Games

With another victory secured, Godwin increased her three-day winnings to $40,602.

The result was particularly impressive given the difficulties faced by her challengers and the relatively modest scores throughout the game.

The Final Jeopardy clue also sparked discussion online, with some viewers suggesting the historical reference would have been especially familiar to those who remembered the Kennedy assassination and its aftermath.

Godwin will return for her fourth appearance on Wednesday, October 28, hoping to extend her winning streak and move closer to becoming a five-game champion.
