Conditions were serious enough that organizers ultimately concluded the concert couldn’t safely proceed.
The venue said officials had explored possible ways of keeping the show alive, including looking for another location capable of handling the event.
None worked.
“The safety of our fans, artists, crew and venue staff remains our highest priority,” the venue said in a statement.
“Every effort was made to find potential solutions for the show to move forward in Toronto, but unfortunately we were unable to find an alternative venue that could accommodate everyone.”
Officials Described It As An Extraordinary Storm
The weather event responsible for the damage was far beyond an ordinary summer storm.
According to the venue’s statement, a suspected microburst brought extreme winds and heavy rainfall to the area.
“Last week’s storm was an extraordinary weather event,” the statement said.
Officials characterized its severity as a “100-year storm for Toronto.”
With part of the venue damaged, continuing with an enormous rock concert would have introduced risks for fans, performers, crew members and stadium employees.
That left organizers facing a frustrating conclusion.
Even after attempts to find another solution, the Toronto stop had to be called off.
Fans Lost The Concert — But Got A Surprise Instead
For anyone holding a ticket, a pop-up appearance obviously couldn’t replace a full AC/DC stadium show.
The band’s concerts are built around enormous production, decades of rock classics and Young’s unmistakable stage presence.
But the surprise visit did offer something a stadium performance normally couldn’t.
Fans could get much closer to the band.
They could see historic memorabilia.
Some could get autographs.
And at least one family managed to create a story far stranger than anything that would have happened from their seats inside Rogers Stadium.
Their baby had been signed by Angus Young.
