“£80,000 VANISHED IN THE FINAL SECONDS… AND FANS WANTED THE RULES CHANGED.” The Chase viewers were left furious after Annabelle came agonizingly close to an £80,000 victory, only to be caught at the very last moment. After answering an incredible 20 questions on her own, many believed she deserved the win — and some even argued Anne Hegerty should have let her through. The heartbreaking finish sparked a fan backlash, with viewers calling it one of the cruelest defeats the show has seen.

THE Chase fans have called for a major rule break after a contestant narrowly missed out on scooping £80,000.

The fan-favourite ITV quiz show aired its latest episode on Tuesday night as Bradley Walsh introduced four new players.

Each hopeful went up against Anne Hegerty, aka The Governess, for their chance at scooping the jackpot prize.

But as the competition progressed, the professional quizzer proved she was unbeatable as Binesh, Tash and Omar were eliminated.

Annabelle was the only remaining player in the final round but still play a blinder and impressed even Anne with her knowledge.

However, despite answering 20 questions, Anne eventually caught Annabelle in the final few moments.

It meant she went home empty-handed and her £80,000 prize disappeared instantly.

Taking to social media, one fan of The Chase demanded Anne should have let Annabelle win.

They said: “Anne you’re mean. Why couldn’t you let her win like you do with the celebrities. #TheChase.”

A second wrote: “Annabelle has been robbed. Some of the questions for Anne were way too easy #thechase.”

“Boo Anne you could have thrown that,” fumed a third fan.

Meanwhile, the show’s rival Mastermind on the BBC left fans furious as they accused bosses of ‘dumbing down’ questions.

Clive Myrie welcomed back four contestants for their semi-final round – but some viewers were not happy with the specialist subjects.
