Kin Season 3: Release Date, Cast, Plot And Everything We Know

After three years of uncertainty, Kin is finally coming back. The acclaimed Irish crime drama has been officially renewed for a third season, with production now underway and the Kinsella family set to return to screens in 2027.

The news ends a long period of uncertainty surrounding the future of the RTÉ drama. After its second season aired in 2023, the show was left in limbo following the collapse of Canadian production company BRON Studios, one of its original backers.

Created by Peter McKenna and co-created by Ciaran Donnelly, Kin follows the Kinsellas, a fictional Dublin crime family caught in gangland conflict, shifting alliances and increasingly dangerous battles for control.

Now, the family is preparing for its next chapter — and this time, the biggest threat may come from within.

Kin season three is officially scheduled to air in 2027.

RTÉ confirmed in July 2026 that the third season was already in production, with Metropolitan Pictures and House of Juno taking over production. The BBC is also involved with the new series.

A specific premiere date has not yet been announced, but the confirmation of a 2027 release means fans no longer have to wonder whether the crime drama will return at all.

The long wait began after season two ended in 2023, when BRON Studios entered bankruptcy proceedings and the future of Kin became uncertain. The show had originally premiered on RTÉ One in September 2021 before expanding its international audience through BBC One and Netflix.

What Will Kin Season 3 Be About?

The third season picks up with the Kinsellas attempting to strengthen their position and consolidate their power.

But the family will face a different kind of danger this time. RTÉ’s official synopsis reveals that buried betrayals and long-standing rivalries will begin turning the family against itself, with the Kinsellas’ greatest threat potentially coming from inside their own empire.

That setup follows directly from the explosive events of season two.

The finale saw the Kinsella siblings unite around a decision to kill former family patriarch Bren Kinsella in order to protect their children from his abuse and influence. Before they could carry out the plan, however, Frank killed his brother and subsequently took his own life.

Amanda also emerged from the season with considerably more power. She was trusted to deal with the Turkish gang, while her alliance with Nuray Batuk helped Nuray eliminate her business partner and take control of the operation. That development brought an end to the Kinsellas’ debt while creating a potentially important new relationship for the family.

The third season is therefore poised to explore what happens when the Kinsellas have more power — but less unity.

Amanda’s increasingly influential position will be particularly interesting to watch, while her complicated relationship with Michael could create further tension.

There is also the unresolved question of Molly, who disappeared after her brief romance with Michael.

Why Did Kin Take So Long To Return?

The delay had little to do with the story itself.

After season two aired in 2023, BRON Studios went bankrupt, putting the future of the series in doubt. RTÉ continued negotiations over a potential third season, but it took several years to find a new path forward.

The revival eventually became possible through Metropolitan Pictures and House of Juno, the production company co-founded by Charlie Cox, with the BBC joining the third season.

The show’s popularity also continued to grow during the hiatus, particularly after its wider availability through BBC and Netflix.

Not yet.

With season three currently in production, an official trailer has not been released. A teaser or full trailer is expected closer to the 2027 premiere.

For now, the confirmed cast and the darker direction of the new storyline are the biggest clues to what lies ahead.

Where Can You Watch Kin?

The first two seasons of Kin are available to stream through BBC iPlayer and Netflix, giving new viewers plenty of time to catch up with the Kinsella family’s story before season three arrives.

After years of uncertainty, the wait is finally coming to an end — and the Kinsellas are heading back into the Dublin underworld in 2027.
