Julie Andrews Delivers a Tear-Jerking Do-Re-Mi Performance in 2022 That Reminds the World Why She Is the Heart of The Sound of Music

The songs of ‘The Sound of Music’ have become nostalgic treasures in the music industry that are loved across generations. For those of you who haven’t seen the movie have still most likely heard the songs “Do-Re-Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” and “Edelweiss.” Here’s where it gets impressive. Originally released in 1965 by RCA Victor (the American record label), the soundtracks went on to become a global sensation. They dominated the charts for 3 years by becoming the UK’s best-selling album of 1965, 1966, and 1968!

But what makes the songs truly timeless? None of it exists without the incredible voice of Julie Andrews who starred as ‘Maria Von Trapp’ in the film (the only actress presented by director, Robert Wise for the role). Based on the true story depicted in the 1949 book, ‘The Story of the TrappFamily Singers,’ she, together with the Von Trapp kids, performed a loving performance that made it an instant classic.

Here’s the thing about Julie Andrews… Dame Julie Andrews (honorary in 2000) has had an extraordinary career over the span of 7 decades and ‘The Sound of Music’ was just one shining part of it. Some of her other iconic roles include:

  • And finally “Despicable Me” in which she was the voice actor as Gru’s Mom which showed her playful and fun side.
  • “Mary Poppins (1964)” as the nanny which led her to win the 1964 ‘Best Actress’ Academy Awards and the 1965 Golden Globe Award.
  • “The Princess Diaries (2001)” as Queen Clarisse Renaldi .

Therefore, it was hardly a shock when the legendary actress received the 48th AFI Life Achievement Award on June 9, 2022. She gave everyone the absolute joy that her work did, and the show made an effort to celebrate all the wonderful work she did.

Here’s when the magic happened. One of the most wholesome moments came when Julie sang along to “Do-Re-Mi” while the audience reminisced about her career. Julie was then joined in a sweet singalong by the five surviving members of the Von Trapp children––now adults–– in ‘The Sound of Music’ before a packed auditorium. The audience was moved as they laughed and jerked a tear seeing the whole cast re-unite creating a moment full of warmth and nostalgia.
