Why are Harry and Meghan moving back to the UK?

There are many unanswered questions about the Sussex family’s return to the UK, but the one on everyone’s lips is: Why are they moving back?

Several theories have been thrown around, including that Princess Diana’s 30th death anniversary is on the horizon. It is possible that Prince Harry is seeking to reunite with his brother ahead of this important date.

Others have cited the British education system as a reason while some have suggested the Sussexes have more status in the UK than America.

The family also made a trip to the UK over the summer, which left many speculating that Prince Harry missed his homeland.

Meghan shared many of the snaps of their travels in the UK in a social media post in July.

The unseen snaps were taken during the family’s travels to Portugal and Princess Diana’s childhood home

How long will Harry and Meghan stay in the UK?

Harry and Meghan’s move looks to be long-term given that both their children are reportedly enrolled in a British school.

Ailsa Anderson, who worked for the late Queen from 2001 to 2013, told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “They do have two young children, they will be enrolling in school. You can’t flip-flop every two minutes and take them out of school and go back to the United States and then come back to the UK, so I can see that it’s going to be longer than an extended period.”

The couple will still keep their Montecito mansion in California and home in Portugal, it is understood. However, The New York Post reported that their US home could be sold off given its extortionate monthly costs.

The return to the UK will be the Duchess’s ‘biggest challenge yet’ says Camilla Tominey

The Telegraph’s Associate Editor Camilla Tominey has said the move will be the Duchess’s ‘biggest challenge yet.’

In a column for the same newspaper, Ms Tominey said they Sussex family have finally achieved their goal of being “half in, half out” as they have always wanted.

She added the move would be a “humiliation” for the pair who left the UK seeing freedom.

But for Meghan, the homecoming could be challenging given her low approval ratings from the British public and having to leave her life in the US behind, she writes.

Duchess of Sussex ‘taking one for the team’, says former royal correspondent

Former royal correspondent Jennie Bond has said the Duchess of Sussex is “taking one for the team”.

Speaking to Sky News, the former BBC correspondent said: “I think we should beware a pile-on on Meghan in particular, and I can see that already happening. This is the decision they’ve made probably for the sake of their children, as much as for Harry.

“Perhaps Meghan is taking one for the team here, because I’m not sure this is her life’s desire to live back in the UK.”

She added that the media must be aware that Meghan said she was driven to suicidal thoughts by the way she was made to feel while living in the UK.

However, Ms Bond also raised the absurdity of yesterday’s bombshell announcement, calling it “odd” that the Sussex family didn’t issue a clear statement.

“Just tell us the facts, but we are left here just surmising and guessing at their reasons,” she said.

Royal reconciliation hopes raised by Cabinet minister as Harry and Meghan return to UK

A Cabinet minister has told of her hopes that the King, Prince William and Prince Harry can end their rift.

Education Secretary Lucy Powell suggested that a Royal reconciliation would be good for Britain’s “reputation around the world”.

On Harry and Meghan’s plans to come back to Britain, Ms Powell told LBC Radio: “I hope that this is all part of a bigger reconciliation for the family because you know the royal family is very important to to this country and to our reputation around the world.

“I think I for one think it’s great to have Harry and Meghan and their family back here.”

Pictured: Prince Harry at roundtable event in Washington DC on Wednesday

Prince Harry was pictured attending a roundtable event about support for veterans in Washington DC last night.

The event brought together key military advocates and leaders to discuss support for wounded soldiers.

His appearance came as news of his return to the UK broke.

In the photos, Harry is seen smiling as he greets guests before taking to the podium to make a speech. Despite stepping back from official royal duties and being stripped of his royal patronages, the Prince has continued his philanthropic efforts both in the UK and stateside.

What are the security arrangements?

The Sussex family’s security arrangements have been at the heart of the feud.

Security decisions are taken by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC).

Ravec withdrew Harry’s right to taxpayer-funded security back in 2020 when the Sussexes stepped back from frontline royal duties.

Harry later lodged an appeal against the Home Office and the Met Police, but consequently lost.

The government proceeded to offer a “bespoke” and cheaper security package for the family.

It is not clear what will happen now in regard to their security as Harry and Meghan have not expressed any interest of resuming their roles as senior royals as of yet.

The UK is a better place than America to raise children, says Cabinet minister

Prince Harry and Meghan are coming back to Britain as it is a better place than America to bring up children, a Cabinet minister has suggested.

Amid the reports that the couple and their children are going to return to the UK later this month, Education Secretary Lucy Powell told LBC Radio: “The vast majority of your listeners will welcome that news, and they obviously are not working royals anymore, and want to come back to this country.

“I assume because we do have great schools, great education. That’s why many people do return to this country and choose this country to bring up their children in.”

Where will Harry and Meghan live?

For security reasons (more to follow on that…), the exact location of the Sussex family’s new home has not been revealed.

However, it is understood to be a private, non-royal residence outside of London. Rumours are rife that the pair could be relocating close to the Spencer family estate, Althorp, near the Cotswolds and Northampton area.

Their children, Archie and Lilibet, are to attend British schools from September.

But the move may not be permanent as the couple will retain their homes in California and Portugal.

The development has stunned royal watchers and is sure to send ripples through Harry’s family

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are relocating back to the UK within days, according to reports.

The development has stunned royal watchers and is sure to send ripples through Harry‘s family.

The couple will reportedly set up home in a non-royal residence outside of London – and have already enrolled Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet in British schools.

The shock move comes more than six years after Harry and Meghan relocated to the US, in what was dubbed “Megxit“.

The King, who is still living with cancer, was only made aware of the move on Sunday.

Among the questions raised by Sussexes’ decision is how it will be met by Harry’s estranged brother, William, the Prince of Wales.
