Prince Harry’s relationship with King Charles may have taken a surprising turn, but a royal author close to the Sussexes claims there is one family relationship that remains beyond repair.

Omid Scobie, the journalist once dubbed Harry and Meghan Markle’s “cheerleader”, says the “iciness” between Harry and his father has thawed, with a new “warmth” now present between the King and the Sussex family.

But when it comes to Prince William, Scobie offered a far more definitive assessment.

“I think we’ve seen with Charles things have moved forward and that iciness has thawed out. There’s a warmth there,” he said in an exclusive clip from the new ABC News Studios documentary Harry & Meghan: The Return of the Prince.

“With William, I don’t see it will ever change.”

Scobie also rejected the idea that Princess Kate could simply step in as a “peacekeeper” and repair the brothers’ relationship.

“There’s always this talk of Kate potentially being the peacekeeper, the one that could bring the two brothers together,” he said. “If I’ve learned anything over the years from covering them, it’s that Kate has very little to do with that relationship between the brothers.”

The documentary also featured Erin Hill, senior editor at People magazine, who claimed palace insiders had described William and Kate’s approach to the Sussexes as distinctly traditional.

“Keep calm, carry on, do the job,” Hill said, adding that Harry and Meghan are “not a priority for them” as the couple look towards the future.

The comments come after Harry and Meghan returned to Britain on August 26, six years after leaving the UK and stepping down as working royals.

Their return has already been surrounded by fresh tensions, including the relocation of Archie and Lilibet to a different school after only two days, reportedly following difficulties with traffic and their security convoy.

There has also been friction over the couple’s status, after a letter authorised by Charles reiterated to senior government stakeholders that Harry and Meghan are private citizens.

Meanwhile, the latest controversy surrounding Earl Spencer’s book about Diana has placed further pressure on the royal family, with neither Harry nor William publicly commenting on the allegations involving their father.
