I have been one of Meghan Markle’s harshest critics, but I can acknowledge when she gets something right — and her latest return to Britain deserves some credit.

For once, the Duchess of Sussex is making headlines for how little we have seen of her, rather than how much.

There has been no grand relaunch, no attempt to dominate Prince Harry’s engagements and no apparent rush to turn every movement into a public event.

Instead, Meghan, 45, has largely stayed out of sight while Harry has carried out his Invictus and WellChild commitments alone.

Deliberately or not, the Duchess appears to be discovering the power of restraint — an approach that has long been associated with Princess Catherine.

While Harry has been in front of the cameras, Meghan has reportedly been settling Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet into life in Britain, spending time with friends and adjusting to a quieter British rhythm.

How long that lasts remains to be seen. But right now, it represents a striking departure from the Sussexes’ more highly publicised years.

Meghan Has Stopped Competing for the Spotlight

For years, one of the biggest criticisms levelled at Harry and Meghan was that major developments involving the Royal Family could quickly be followed by another Sussex headline.

That pattern has been noticeably different during this return.

Harry has handled his public engagements alone, while Meghan has yet to make a public appearance in Britain.

At WellChild, she stayed away as Harry took centre stage at one of the causes most closely associated with him.

That gives the Duke room to reconnect with work he has long championed without every appearance becoming another discussion about Meghan.

More importantly, it means she is no longer visibly sharing every moment of his public schedule.

The result is a far quieter presence — and one that may be attracting attention precisely because it is so restrained.

The Duchess Appears to Be Embracing a Quieter British Life

The glimpses emerging from this new chapter are remarkably different from the more polished and highly publicised Sussex image of recent years.

There have been pub lunches, friends visiting, time at home and countryside settings rather than a succession of red carpets and formal appearances.

Meghan’s friend Kelly McKee Zajfen described having “the best time” during her British visit and shared photographs of the Sussexes with her baby son, including a relaxed pub outing and family moments away from official events.

Meghan has also been spotted privately at a pub in Oxfordshire with friends while Harry was attending WellChild in London.

None of this is revolutionary.

But perhaps that is exactly why it feels significant.

After years in which almost every Sussex appearance has generated intense discussion, Meghan now appears to be allowing family life and private moments to occupy more of the space.

Princess Catherine Mastered the Art of Restraint

This is where the Catherine comparison becomes particularly interesting.

The Princess of Wales, 44, has long understood that public fascination does not have to be constantly fed.

Her appearances are carefully chosen, her family life is fiercely protected and she rarely appears compelled to respond to every headline surrounding her.

Meghan, at least for now, appears to be moving towards a similar philosophy.

She does not need to accompany Harry everywhere. She does not need to publicly narrate every stage of their return to Britain. And she does not need to fight every battle in front of the cameras.

That does not erase the interviews, Netflix projects or years of deeply personal revelations that have shaped the Sussexes’ public story.

But people can change their approach.

If Meghan has genuinely decided to lower the volume, stay out of Harry’s way and let family life speak more quietly for itself, it could prove more effective than another glossy rebrand.

After years of intense exposure, perhaps the most unexpected move Meghan could make was simply to step away from centre stage.

And for once, that absence may be exactly what makes people notice her.
