‘Disturbing’ Netflix crime thriller has fans unable to stop watching
Netflix viewers are racing through Blood Sacrifice, the new five-part crime thriller that has quickly become one of the streaming service’s biggest recent hits.
The Swedish drama has climbed to third place in Netflix’s UK top 10 series, putting it behind the latest seasons of Outer Banks and Love Is Blind UK at the time of writing. Viewers have described the series as dark, brutal, addictive and, for some, a crime thriller masterpiece.
A brutal mystery unfolds in Stockholm
Blood Sacrifice, known as Blodsoffer in Swedish, is set during summer in Stockholm, when daylight barely gives way to darkness.
The story begins with an emergency call reporting what appears to be a home invasion. Two police officers are dispatched to investigate a summer house in the archipelago, but when they arrive, there is no one there, or at least no one they can find.
The following day, the bodies of both officers are discovered.
Their deaths mark the beginning of a disturbing series of murders, with police officers seemingly being targeted. As the investigation develops, the lead detective turns to an unlikely source of help: his father, a retired detective.
Together, they must try to uncover who is behind the killings and why the officers are being targeted.
From the creator of Gone and Lupin
The series comes from writer and creator George Kay, whose previous work includes several well-known crime and thriller productions.
Kay created ITV’s Gone and Netflix’s Lupin, as well as Apple TV+’s Hijack, starring Idris Elba. His writing credits also include My Mad Fat Diary, Killing Eve and the true-crime drama Litvinenko. He also created Criminal: UK.
That track record has helped draw attention to Blood Sacrifice, which has quickly developed an audience of its own.
The series has reportedly performed strongly outside the UK as well, reaching the number one position in several countries, including the United States.
A short series made for binge-watching
One factor working in the show’s favour is its relatively short running time. The five episodes total just over four hours, making the entire series easy to finish in a day or two.
That has clearly appealed to viewers who have been sharing their recommendations online.
One fan described Blood Sacrifice as “dark, intense, and absolutely addictive,” adding that the series held their attention from beginning to end. They praised its atmosphere and said it would appeal particularly to fans of crime thrillers.
Another viewer highlighted the show’s unusual story and creepy tone, while praising the way the plot was handled. They also noted that having only five episodes allows the story to move quickly and maintain an edgy feel throughout.
A third viewer went even further, describing it as “a crime thriller masterpiece that is the biggest show in the world.”

Not everyone was impressed by the ending
Despite the strong response, Blood Sacrifice has not received universal praise.
Some viewers have raised concerns about the final episode, although they have still recommended the series overall.
One viewer praised the intriguing mystery, well-developed script and strong cast but felt the ending was disappointing. They described the final episode as lacklustre and anticlimactic, saying they had expected more from the conclusion.
Even so, they still recommended the show as an enjoyable short series that is easy to binge.
With its five-episode format, brutal murders and central mystery, Blood Sacrifice has clearly found an audience among Netflix viewers looking for a crime thriller they can finish quickly.
