Christian Horner has revealed how Geri Halliwell stood by him when allegations of inappropriate behaviour threatened to turn their personal lives upside down — and the striking words she used to help him face the storm.

In his new book, Drive, the former Red Bull team principal describes the moment he first learned of the allegations in February 2024, the difficult conversation that followed with his wife, and the support she offered as the controversy intensified.

Horner was investigated over allegations concerning his behaviour towards a female colleague. He denied the accusations and was cleared following an internal investigation. However, alleged messages between the two subsequently emerged in a leak, keeping the controversy in the headlines.

An appeal against the original decision was rejected in August 2024.

Horner, who led Red Bull for two decades before leaving the team in July 2025, has now offered a personal account of how the scandal unfolded behind closed doors.

‘JUST TELL YOUR TRUTH’

Horner recalled receiving a phone call from a lawyer informing him of the allegations. Initially, he struggled to understand what was happening.

“‘This can’t be right,’ I said, eventually, wanting to ask more questions but not knowing where to begin,” he wrote.

He described feeling bewildered as the lawyer explained the situation and the potential consequences for his life.

Shortly afterwards, Horner told Geri, his wife of nearly a decade, what he had learned.

At the time, the former Spice Girl was in the kitchen getting the family ready for school. Horner waited until everyone had left before breaking the news.

“Geri knew by my face that something was very wrong,” he recalled.

After listening to his explanation, she fell silent. Both understood the seriousness of the situation, but Geri’s response was direct.

“Just tell your truth,” she told him.

“That’s all I can do,” Horner replied.

The exchange offered a glimpse into the private conversation taking place as the allegations threatened to engulf the couple’s lives.

Horner also described returning home after visiting the Red Bull factory, still deeply troubled by the situation.

He praised Geri’s composure as public scrutiny intensified, saying she reassured him that everything would be all right.

“Our lives had been turned upside down, yet she found the strength and conviction to support me through an immensely difficult period, one that was undoubtedly challenging for her as well,” he wrote.

Horner said her belief in him helped him maintain the determination to move forward, particularly at a time when his confidence was being tested.

He credited her with providing the perspective and stability he needed during the months that followed.

Then came the line that, according to Horner, captured Geri’s view of the situation.

“‘Well, the higher you rise, the sharper the knives,’ said Geri. Her logic was hard to argue against.”

The remark reflected her perspective on the intense scrutiny that can accompany success and public prominence. For Horner, it was a reminder of the pressures surrounding his position at the top of Formula One.

THE BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX MOMENT THAT SPOKE VOLUMES

Geri’s support also became visible in public.

In March 2024, days after alleged messages, voice notes and conversations involving Horner and a female Red Bull employee were leaked, she travelled to Bahrain for the Grand Prix.

Rather than distancing herself from her husband amid the controversy, Geri walked into the paddock alongside him, holding his hand as photographers and reporters gathered around them.

Horner recalled that he had chosen not to comment on the speculation.

“Geri was on her way to Bahrain. After she arrived, we walked hand in hand into the paddock on race day as a media scrum jostled around us,” he wrote.

The appearance became one of the most closely watched moments of the controversy, with the couple facing intense attention as the story continued to dominate headlines.

A SCANDAL THAT CHANGED HORNER’S CAREER

Horner’s account comes after a turbulent period in his professional life.

During his 25-year association with Red Bull, he helped guide the team to six constructors’ championships and eight drivers’ world titles. He was relieved of his duties as team principal and chief executive in July 2025.

Away from the track, his marriage to Geri — whom he wed in 2015 — faced its own public test as the allegations and leaked material drew widespread attention.

In Drive, Horner presents his wife’s support as a crucial source of strength during that period. His recollections offer his perspective on the strain the scandal placed on their relationship, while making clear how highly he valued her response.
