Prince Harry is reportedly determined to carve out a more relatable role for himself after returning to the UK, with a fresh charity drive said to be at the heart of his plans.

The Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle returned to Britain at the end of August, and reports suggest the couple are preparing for a busier schedule of charity work in the weeks ahead.

But Harry’s plans come against the backdrop of a pointed reminder from the Palace.

In a letter from a royal aide, King Charles reiterated that Harry and Meghan remain private citizens, despite their return to the UK. The couple stepped down as senior working royals and moved to California in 2020.

According to reports, the clarification has only strengthened Harry’s determination to build a public role on his own terms.

A source told Women’s Day that Harry sees his status as a private citizen as an opportunity rather than a restriction.

The source claimed the Duke wants his approach to be “a lot less stuffy and more relatable than anything the Royals are doing”.

Harry is also said to have lined up a busy September charity schedule, potentially allowing him to build on the attention surrounding his return to Britain.

The reported strategy would give the Sussexes a chance to focus on causes and public engagements without formally returning to the working Royal Family.

The charity plans come as Harry and Meghan have also faced practical challenges since returning to Britain.

The couple recently moved Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to a new school following discussions with their security team.

The children had reportedly spent only two days at their previous school before the decision was made to move them, amid concerns surrounding the practicalities of the school run and the family’s security arrangements.

The school change has added another layer to the Sussexes’ return, as they attempt to establish a routine in Britain while remaining outside the formal structure of the working monarchy.

For Harry, however, the reported September plans suggest his return may be about more than simply spending time in the UK.
