Meghan Markle has finally been spotted out and about in the Cotswolds after returning to Britain — but according to one local royal correspondent, her arrival has already become a talking point among some residents.

The Duchess of Sussex, 45, was seen enjoying a pub lunch with Hollywood star Ellen DeGeneres at the Three Horseshoes near Burford, Oxfordshire.

DeGeneres’ wife, Portia de Rossi, was also with them, with the group reportedly seen “chatting and laughing” during their countryside outing, according to Page Six.

An eyewitness told the publication they heard Meghan saying goodbye to the celebrity couple before she left the pub.

Photographs showed the Duchess dressed casually in white trousers and a light blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up as she walked away from the venue.

But while Meghan’s first public appearance since returning to the UK appeared relaxed, the reaction from some people living in the area was rather different.

TalkTV presenter Jeremy Kyle raised the subject during his breakfast show while speaking to royal correspondent Rupert Bell, who also lives in the Cotswolds.

“Can I ask a question? I imagine you’re in the leafy Cotswolds. Have you seen Meghan at the local supermarket yet?” Kyle asked.

Bell admitted he had not personally encountered Meghan, although he revealed his own property is around a 40-minute drive from the pub where she was seen.

He then offered his account of the mood among some people he knows locally.

“No, I haven’t seen Meghan,” Bell said. “But the chattering classes of this part of the world haven’t welcomed her arrival with open arms.

“When I’m very occasionally asked out, it is a topic of conversation.

“But I haven’t personally bumped into her. She was supposed to be in a pub near Burford earlier this week. That is about 40 minutes away from where I am.”

Asked to explain what he meant by the “chattering classes”, Bell was even more direct.

“Let me put it this way. My friends – most people don’t seem to be greeting her arrival with open arms. There is a lot of eye-rolling about their arrival to these parts,” he said.

“I think that’s the best way of describing it.”

Bell’s comments describe the reaction within his own social circle and should not be taken as a measure of opinion across the Cotswolds as a whole.

Meghan has reportedly also visited Soho Farmhouse, a well-known celebrity retreat, since returning to Britain, although she was not photographed there.

Her recent pub appearance marks her first known public sighting in the UK since her latest return, after a period largely away from the cameras.
