Kid Rock Makes 17-Year-Old Fan’s Dream Come True — Then Shares an Emotional Message as Teen Enters Hospice Care

A 17-year-old Kid Rock fan dreamed of playing drums beside his musical hero. He got that moment — and now Kid Rock is asking fans to surround the teenager and his family with prayers during an unimaginably difficult time.
When Kid Rock released the music video for his new Christian song “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King)” on October 1, the opening included a dedication to two people: longtime keyboardist Jimmie Bones and teenage fan Kalvin Lynch.
Bones, who has performed alongside Kid Rock for years, has been battling ALS.
Kalvin’s story was less familiar to many fans.
But after learning why the 17-year-old was sitting behind the drums in Kid Rock’s new video, that quickly changed.
Kalvin Lynch Had One Special Wish

According to a fundraising page dedicated to Kalvin, the teenager has been battling DIPG, described as an aggressive, fast-growing brain tumor located on the brain stem.
Kalvin had a Make-A-Wish request.
He wanted to play drums with Kid Rock.
That dream became reality when Kid Rock welcomed him to perform — and went one step further by featuring Kalvin playing drums in the “James 1:17” music video.
Videos shared by Kalvin’s mother from the shoot captured the teenager living out the experience he had wished for.
For Kid Rock, it would become much more than another music-video shoot.
Kid Rock Asks Fans to Pray
After the video was released, Kid Rock returned to social media with a very different message.
He made clear that his post wasn’t about promoting his new music.
“This is not a video to promote my album,” he said. “This is a special video for my friend Kalvin Lynch.”
Kid Rock explained that he had learned Kalvin’s health had declined since they filmed together.
“You may have heard that Kalvin is battling a horrible brain tumor, and I just found out he has entered some special care,” he said.
Knowing how difficult the situation had become for Kalvin and his loved ones, Kid Rock asked his followers to fill the comments with encouragement and prayers in the hope that those messages might provide the family with some comfort.
Kalvin’s Mother Shares a Heartbreaking Update
Kalvin’s mother subsequently revealed that her son had entered hospice care.
She described it as an incredibly difficult decision for the family and said preparations were being made so Kalvin could return home.
“We are not doing anymore radiation and there isnt [sic] anything left to try,” she wrote.
She said the plan was for Kalvin to spend his time at home surrounded by his family, while asking people to continue praying for a miracle and for him to remain comfortable and pain-free.
Her words gave Kid Rock’s request for prayers even greater significance.
But before ending his own message, the singer wanted to speak directly to Kalvin.
Kid Rock Speaks Directly to His Young Friend
The tone changed as Kid Rock addressed the teenager personally.
“It really was an honor for me to be able to perform with you and have you be part of a song that’s very special to me,” he told Kalvin.
It was a simple acknowledgment of a moment that had worked both ways.
For Kalvin, playing drums alongside Kid Rock fulfilled a dream.
For Kid Rock, sharing that performance with the teenager had clearly become something deeply meaningful as well.
He ended with a message of faith, friendship and encouragement.
“I will see you again, my friend. Hang in there, keep fighting. I love you, God loves you. God bless you and all your family.”
A Music Video That Became Much More Than Music
“James 1:17 (Jesus Is King)” already carried an explicitly Christian message.
But Kalvin’s involvement has given the video another deeply personal meaning.
What started with one teenager’s wish became a permanent recording of the day he got behind the drums and played alongside an artist he admired.
Now, as Kalvin and his family face an extraordinarily difficult chapter, Kid Rock is using his platform not to promote the song but to direct attention back toward the teenager who helped him perform it.
Kalvin Lynch wished for the chance to play drums with Kid Rock. Kid Rock didn’t simply make it happen — he put the 17-year-old in his music video so the moment could live forever. Now, with Kalvin in hospice care, the singer is asking fans for something far more important than streams or album sales: prayers for his young friend and the family standing beside him.
