Rod Stewart Announces His Return to the Stage After Heart Procedure Forced Him to Halt Tour — ‘I’m Already Feeling Better and Very Much on the Mend’
Rod Stewart is preparing to do what he loves again after a frightening summer of health problems brought his 2026 tour to an unexpected stop.
The 81-year-old rock legend is set to return to the stage in 2027 after undergoing a coronary stent procedure that forced him to cancel the remainder of his scheduled shows.
Stewart said he recovered quickly from the procedure, which was described as routine, and his wife Penny Lancaster has offered another encouraging update.
According to Lancaster, her husband is already “back at full speed” in everyday life.
But returning to a Rod Stewart concert is a very different matter.
‘I’m already feeling better’
Stewart initially canceled an August 9 performance in Cincinnati because of what was described as “an unforeseen but minor medical procedure that required prompt attention.”
It was later revealed that the singer had received a coronary stent.
At the time, Stewart still had 15 tour stops scheduled through mid-September.
Doctors recommended approximately four weeks of recovery, meaning the remaining dates had to be put aside.
For Stewart, disappointing fans was one of the hardest parts.
“I’m already feeling better and very much on the mend,” he said in August.
“I’m deeply disappointed to miss these shows and sorry to let my fans down, but I look forward to getting back on stage and having a good time with you all again soon.”
Now that return is beginning to take shape.
Rod Stewart’s first shows back are set for 2027
Five concerts have so far been confirmed for Stewart’s comeback.
Three are scheduled for March 2027, followed by another two in September, with all five currently set to take place in the United States.
More dates could eventually fill the gap between those performances.
The announcement offers some welcome news after a difficult stretch in which Stewart repeatedly found himself battling health problems.
Before the heart procedure, illness had already disrupted several performances.
A difficult summer of canceled concerts
Stewart had been struggling with health setbacks for much of the summer.
A persistent sinus infection forced him to cancel multiple shows from his Las Vegas residency.
A scheduled performance in San Diego was subsequently canceled because of laryngitis.
Another worrying moment came during a June concert in Utah, when Stewart reportedly needed oxygen after nearly fainting onstage.
Despite those problems, Stewart continued performing until the heart procedure finally forced him to stop.
His doctors wanted him to recover properly before attempting the physically demanding show that fans have come to expect.
And Lancaster explained exactly why that precaution was necessary.
Penny Lancaster says he’s ‘back at full speed’
Lancaster said Stewart has returned to his normal daily activities following the operation.
“He’s back at full speed in his day-to-day activities,” she said.
But doctors still advised postponing or canceling his remaining tour dates because of the potential risks involved in immediately returning to such physically intense performances.
Lancaster pointed out that her husband’s concerts aren’t built around him remaining seated behind an instrument.
“He doesn’t just sit down on a stool or behind a piano,” she explained.
“He runs around for nearly two hours with four different costume changes, because he’s sweating through everything.”
That energy has remained part of Stewart’s live identity even as he has entered his eighties.
For his family and doctors, allowing enough time for his body to recover before returning to that routine became the priority.
The stage is calling again
Stewart first rose to prominence with Faces before becoming one of rock’s most successful solo performers.
Decades later, his live shows remain an important part of his career — and judging by his comments after the procedure, stepping away was never intended to be permanent.
The canceled dates brought a difficult summer to an abrupt end, but his first 2027 concerts now provide a target for his comeback.
After sinus problems, laryngitis, an onstage scare and finally a heart procedure, Stewart has been given something he didn’t particularly want: time away from performing.
But Lancaster’s update suggests the familiar energy is already returning at home.
And if his recovery continues as planned, the next step will be bringing it back to the stage.
