Thousands of fans were waiting for Kane Brown and Katelyn to sing “Thank God” together—but with his wife sick with the flu at home in Florida, Kane found another way to bring her into the moment. Right from the California stage, he FaceTimed Katelyn, waking her at 11:30 and earning a playful “I’m going to kill you.” But Kane’s response was pure affection: “You can never look bad. You look beautiful.” After exchanging “I love you,” Kane performed their duet alone. She couldn’t stand beside him that night, but he made sure she was still part of their song.

Kane Brown found an unexpected way to bring Katelyn Brown into his recent California concert after illness kept his wife thousands of miles away in Florida.

During his performance at The OC Smoke Show in San Juan Capistrano, Brown was preparing to sing their hit duet, “Thank God,” when it became clear that fans were disappointed Katelyn would not be joining him onstage. Rather than simply performing the song without her, the country star pulled out his phone and FaceTimed his wife in front of the crowd.

There was just one problem: Katelyn had the flu — and Brown knew there was a good chance he was about to wake her up.

Before making the call, Brown told the audience that it was already 11:30 where Katelyn was, joking that disturbing her while she was sick might land him in trouble.

“It’ll be okay. I’ve been in timeout before,” he said.

As Brown continued chatting with the crowd, Katelyn answered. He immediately held his phone near the microphone so the audience could hear their conversation.

“Hi, babe. So they’re kind of upset that you’re not here. I told them you got the flu…I know you’re not going to, but can you turn the light on so they can see your face?”

Katelyn reluctantly played along, joking, “I’m going to kill you,” before turning on enough light for fans to see her face on the screen.

Despite Katelyn being sick and unexpectedly awakened, Brown wasted no time complimenting his wife.

“Girl, I mean, you can never look bad. You look beautiful.”

Brown then asked Katelyn how she was doing.

“Not good,” she replied, prompting a sympathetic reaction from the audience.

Brown explained that Katelyn had been sick since he left home to go back on the road about a week and a half earlier.

The couple exchanged “I love you” before ending the FaceTime call. Brown told the audience that under different circumstances, he would normally have asked Katelyn to sing her portion of “Thank God” through the phone. With her battling the flu, however, he decided against putting her through it.

The moment also gave Brown an opportunity to talk about how unusual it is to see his wife under the weather. He described Katelyn, who is also the mother of his children, as “golden.”

Then came another joke that Brown quickly realized might get him into even more trouble.

“It’s like when I leave, the house falls apart because I’m a man and I hold my house,” he said.

He immediately walked it back.

“I’m joking. I’m joking. She holds the house down. I’m just kidding. Don’t put me in jail, don’t put nothing TikTok.”

With Katelyn resting at home, Brown went ahead and performed “Thank God” solo before continuing with the remainder of his set.

The duet has become a special part of Kane and Katelyn Brown’s live appearances, with fans often getting the chance to see the husband-and-wife pair share the stage for the song. Their chemistry has helped make performances of “Thank God” a memorable part of Brown’s shows whenever Katelyn is able to join him.

This time, fans did not get the usual duet, but Brown’s spontaneous FaceTime call ensured Katelyn was still part of the moment.

The “Miles On It” singer now has just three U.S. performances remaining this year. He will then begin 2027 with a series of shows in Australia in January.
