Blue Lights fans have another police show to binge as they await the next series of the BBC drama. While the Belfast-set series follows officers at the fictional Blackthorn police station in Belfast after they have completed their training, Canadian hit Rookie Blue is based in Toronto and follows a group of newly qualified officers as they navigate life fresh out of the police academy.

The series – hailed as “superb” and “compelling viewing” by fans – can be viewed on ITVX, with season four available now and seasons one, two and three set to be added to the platform on August 9.

The show stars Missy Peregrym as Andrea “Andy” McNally, and Gregory Smith as eager Dov Epstein. Other cast members include Charlotte Sullivan, Travis Milne and Ben Bass.

The programme first aired in 2010 and ran for six series before concluding in 2015, yet it has continued to attract new viewers and looks set to build on its fanbase now it is streaming on ITVX.

Several fans have posted messages on social media saying they are “hooked” and “obsessed” with the series, with one message on IMDb.com urging: “Definitely watch. It’s worth it. I have seen it three times already. Its amazing. Relaxing and exciting. Will not disappoint. Watch it.”

Someone else added: “If you like cop shows then this show will one of the best. Even if you are not a cop show fan still you will like this show. That’s the beauty of this show.”

“It’s tight, well-edited, smart, and perfectly streamlined,” said one reviewer on HollywoodChicago.com. “That balance, that often-elusive thing in the world of cop shows, is here.”

Several viewers said on Reddit that once they started watching the show, they “could not stop”. “It is SO bingeworthy,” said one, as another said they had “raced” through it.

“I loved Rookie Blue – binge-watching six seasons in a few weeks time,” said somebody else on IMDb.com. “If you haven’t watched it yet, give it a chance! My only critique would be that six seasons are not enough!”
