Wheel of Fortune Contestant Breaks Down in Tears After Winning $76,724 — and His Heartbreaking Dedication to His Grandfather Leaves Ryan Seacrest With a Touching Response
What began as an exciting night of puzzles and prizes turned into an emotional moment on Wheel of Fortune when a North Carolina father of three won more than $76,000 and revealed the deeply personal reason his victory meant so much.
Moe Moultrie, from Wilmington, North Carolina, stunned the studio by solving the Bonus Round puzzle almost immediately during the October 29 episode.
But it was what happened after his victory that made the moment especially memorable.
As tears filled his eyes, Moultrie dedicated his winnings to his grandfather, who had loved watching the long-running game show.
Host Ryan Seacrest responded with a touching gesture.
A Strong Start Leads to a $31,724 Victory
Moultrie competed against Adam George of Boston, Massachusetts, and Caroline Rogers of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He took an early lead after correctly solving the Same Letter puzzle, “Demons, Dragons, and Dracula,” earning $3,800.
George appeared to be building momentum in the following round, collecting a Wild Card and revealing several letters before landing on Bankrupt.
That allowed Rogers to solve “Do Do That Voodoo That You Do So Well,” bringing her total to $3,500.
Moultrie then made his biggest move of the night by riding the Express Train and solving “That Sounds Exhilarating!”
The successful round earned him a trip to Mexico and pushed his winnings to $24,624.
After all three contestants solved a Triple Toss-Up worth $2,000 each, Moultrie secured another victory with “Professional Magician.”
He finished the main game with $31,724, while Rogers collected $5,500 and George received $5,000.
Ryan Seacrest Jokes With Contestant Before $45,000 Bonus Round
With his place in the Bonus Round secured, Moultrie selected the category Fun & Games and welcomed his wife, Jessica, to share the moment.
Before the puzzle began, Seacrest noticed that Moultrie was still looking toward his wife instead of concentrating on the game.
“Not that kind of business,” the host joked after asking whether he was ready to get down to business.
“Focus on the gameplay, please. I know you’re distracted.”
The exchange drew laughter before Moultrie turned his attention to the puzzle.
After the standard letters R, S, T, L, N and E were revealed, Moultrie selected C, D, M and A.
The board displayed:
R_ _ ER C _C_EN
Without hesitation, he correctly guessed “Rubber Chicken.”
Seacrest revealed that the envelope contained $45,000, bringing Moultrie’s total winnings to an impressive $76,724.
An Emotional Dedication Brings the Night to a Heartfelt Close
The excitement of winning quickly gave way to a much more personal moment.
As the episode drew to a close, Moultrie became visibly emotional, with a tear rolling down his face.
He explained that he wanted to dedicate his victory to his grandfather, who had enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune.
The heartfelt tribute prompted Seacrest to reach for the contestant’s hand.

The host gently reassured him that his grandfather was watching over him, turning a celebratory game show victory into an emotional exchange.
For Moultrie, the evening delivered far more than a trip to Mexico and a life-changing cash prize.
His $76,724 victory became a tribute to someone who had helped make the television show meaningful to him long before he ever stepped onto its famous stage.
Wheel of Fortune airs weekdays in syndication, with episodes available to stream the following day on Hulu and Peacock.
